Sherri Shepherd's New View
When Sherri Shepherd's friends asked if she was doing Weight Watchers, The View's cohost replied, "Nah. I'm doing diabetes." She's not the only one; 10 percent of U.S. women have the disease. November is American Diabetes Month, so we caught up with Shepherd on the set of her new sitcom, Sherri, and got her rules to live by.
1. Find a doc who talks tough.
"My mom died of diabetes complications when she was 41. When I was 40, my doctor told me, 'I don't know when you're going to have a stroke, but it's going to happen.' That was my wakeup call."
2. Scare yourself skinny.
"Diabetes makes you feel like you're in a fog. I needed clarity, because I was about to join The View and sit at a table with four formidable women. So I vowed to get healthy and strut my stuff in a swimsuit on TV. It worked: I lost 10 inches in three months."
3. Stop using the treadmill as a clothes hanger.
"My trainer -- who I like to call the evil one -- and I do intervals three times a week. He puts that sucker on a crazy level-12 incline at 4.6 miles per hour, then varies the incline until I feel like I'm going to fly right off."
4. Focus on your assets.
"I hate squats, but I love my new booty. So I do those squats, and I run stairs, too."

I have a thyroid/weight problem. Is it OK to do squats every day and is it ok to do push ups every day. Also is it ok to do other bodyweight exercises every day. Or do you have to rest the muscles every other day like in weight lifting?

Thank you Sherri!! Diabetes is scarey,Scarey stuff! but it was your message that made a point with me. That there is something I can do now when I am healthy.
