Salty Chihuahua

This thirst-quenching cocktail was said to be created by a bartender from Chihuahua, Mexico, in the 1940s.

Ingredients
  Coarse salt, (optional)
4 ounces  tequila, divided
2 ounces  orange-flavored liqueur, such as Cointreau, divided
3 cups  grapefruit juice, divided
4   grapefruit slices, for garnish
Directions
1. Wet the rims of 4 glasses and coat with coarse salt (if desired); fill the glasses with ice. Pour 1 ounce tequila and 1/2 ounce liqueur into each. Top each with 3/4 cup grapefruit juice and stir. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit.

I'm not sure where you found this recipe, but I actually created the " Salty Chihuahua" about four years ago. I'm a mixologist and beverage consultant that creates cocktails for restaurants and bars around the country. It was a variation of a Salty Dog, but made with tequila instead of vodka and ruby red grapefruit juice. This is the actual recipe: 2oz pure agave tequila, 0.75 oz lime juice, 0.75 oz simple syrup, 2 oz ruby red grapefruit juice. Shaken and served tall in a salted rimmed glass.
