Rejoice! Your morning cup of joe is healthy. Experts on an American Society for Nutrition panel recently concluded that drinking three to five eight-ounce cups a day lowers your risk of Type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, and colon and liver cancers. "Among other things, the antioxidants in coffee protect your cells and DNA from damage," Bowden says. "Coffee seems to increase antioxidants in the blood, too."
Shopping shortcut: Go easy on the Starbucks: One 16-ounce grande counts as two servings.
Make it even healthier: Too much caffeine can wreak havoc on your sleep, so opt for decaf. It's still loaded with antioxidants.
Bonus benefits: Women who drink at least six cups a day are less likely to develop high blood pressure, revealed a 2005 study by Harvard scientists.

Yes indeed, coffee does have "good for you" qualities as described. Regarding the comment that studies show high caffeine intake can cause cancer, well, the article clearly says decaf will do the same trick for getting the good stuff. What does make coffee a rear-end expander? All the YUCK added, like sugar, creamer & yes, even alcohol. If you must have cream/sugar, make it organic & fat free half & half. Try stevia or agave to sweeten things up.

7/9/2012 11:11:57 AM Report AbuseYeah I can just well imagine drinking 6+ cups of coffee are good for your blood pressure. Forget about the studies that show high caffeine intake can cause cancer. Don't worry about how the irritability factor will destroy your family and other relationships or the lack of sleep. I find this reporting irresponsible.
