Who knew? The week after your period, your body produces a blend of hormones that makes you look and feel hot. "An estrogen increase helps raise levels of mood-boosting dopamine, clears your skin, and speeds up metabolism," says gynecologist Rebecca Booth, MD, author of The Venus Week: Discover the Powerful Secret of Your Cycle...at Any Age. Here's how to feel "I'm too sexy" all month.
1. Fake an Estrogen BoostPlants contain phytoestrogens that can offset the I-hate-the-world-and-my-butt outlook brought on by an estrogen dip. Have two daily servings of soy, nuts, or legumes in the two weeks before your period.
2. Say Spa-a-ahGet a facial or ask your significant other for a massage the week before your period. Pampering is a reminder that you deserve to be worshipped.
3. Beat BloatRetaining more water than the Nile? Have a few daily bites of dark chocolate the week before and during your period. "The flavonoids help you metabolize carbs faster and reduce bloating," says Dr. Booth.
4. Come On, Get HappyKeep moods in check with at least two weekly servings of fish that are rich in omega-3s, like salmon, or a fish-oil supplement. Healthy fats may improve your disposition -- and make your locks shine (we all know the power of a good hair day!).
