Are you a major volleyball nut who’s dying for some insider secrets to step up your game before the next big backyard matchup? Well then, meet Christal Engle, who participated in this weekend’s Pro Beach Volleyball Series sponsored by Jose Cuervo in Belmar, New Jersey. We asked Engle to share some of her training tips and show us the moves that anyone can use to maintain their bikini body at the beach this summer.
What type of special training did you do for the tournament?
I train in Hermosa Beach, CA every day for ten months out of the year. It’s great because it has some of the deepest sand in the world, which makes it hard to move around in and jump out of. So now when I go somewhere else, it seems easy. But for this tournament specifically, I had to make sure I was peaking at the right time and then tapering off closer to the event.
So right now you’re taking it easy?
Well, yes, but you don’t want to lose it. You still want to keep moving and get out there, but I’m not going crazy and doing four hours of practice.
Well, you definitely look amazing. How do stay lean during the summer months?
I definitely watch my diet. I try to eat a balanced meal, but I’m not really super strict about it because if you’re cutting things out and not allowing a treat every once in a while, you’re going to go crazy. I definitely like to watch what I eat, but I’m not afraid to cheat every once in a while. Gummy bears are my favorite!
To work on your bikini beach body, Engle shared some of her favorite workout moves so you’ll be rockin’ it out next time you hit the courts.
