Written on November 2, 2012 at 11:50 am , by

The ING NYC Marathon is now called the Race to Recover. Good idea?

The northeast was badly affected by Hurricane Sandy this week. We hope everyone is safe and keep you in our thoughts.

  • Your turn: What do you think? Should the ING NYC Marathon go on? Tell us in the comments below.

yes – brings money into the city (yes it also costs to host it), many people who traveled to NYC could be in the city for the purpose of running, and the more the normalcy the quicker the healing.

I agree it is crazy. I have 2 in my family who are running it. I also have a daughter who works for NY road runners.i also get why they are doing it. Last year the marathon brought in 340 million to NY- that is a lot of money that could do a lot of good. it also shows NY’s resilience.
It would have been a very tough call either way. it is on- i am going and cheering on NY!  The marathon org plans on raising millions for relief.

No – from someone who lives in a city that has seen its share of hurricanes, the added burden of more people on the streets is not worth it.  Send the money that you would have spent on lodging & food or volunteer to help in some way but stay out of the way of the clean up crews.  Please.
