Favorite Find Friday: ChapStick Sport Ready

I’ll admit it: I’m a self-declared lip balm addict. I need one in my purse at all times. This week, I somehow misplaced one of my many tubes (talk about traumatic!) so I ran to the beauty closet for a last-minute replacement and came across ChapStick Sport Ready ($3, drugstore.com). Not only did it immediately hydrate my tight, dry lips, but I also fell in love with the subtle, lemon-y scent. The convenient clip attached to the cap makes it perfect for athletes or anyone on the go since it allows for easy, one-hand application. Plus, it’s perfect for all seasons (think: clipping it on your gear while speeding down the slopes or attaching it your bag before heading to the beach.) Its water resistant formula with SPF 30 protects lips no matter where you are or what you’re doing. I’m going to put some on right now…

5 Unexpected Uses For Makeup You Already Own

Time to streamline! These genius double uses for the makeup staples you already own make your cosmetics go the extra mile, saving much-needed space in your gym bag—and money in your wallet.

  • BLUSH = EYE SHADOW  Use an eye shadow brush to sweep blush over your eyelids for a pretty, monochromatic look.
  • CONCEALER = EYE & LIP PRIMER Neutralize the ruddy pink tones of eyelids and lips with a light layer of your regular concealer: The colors you apply on top with appear truer and last longer.
  • EYE SHADOW = HIGHLIGHTER Blend a light-colored neutral cream eye shadow (think champagne or gold), such as CoverGirl Intense ShadowBlast in Beige Blaze, on the tops of cheekbones, cupid’s bow, inner corners of the eyes and under the brows for a believable glow.
  • LIP BALM OR LIPSTICK  = CHEEK & EYE ENHANCER In a pinch, dab tinted lip balm or lipstick on cheeks and eyes—they can double as a cream blush and eye shadow. Use a clear balm to add a touch of healthy sheen.

And my own creation: Layer lip balm, a rose, pinky-nude or mauve-hued eye shadow, and top with clear lip gloss for a custom-created lip color.

Favorite Find Friday: VMV Hypoallergenics Armada Moisturising Protective Lip Balm SPF 60+

Armada lip balm 2

When prepping for my 12-day trip to Italy over Labor Day, I surprised myself and did the unthinkable– I fit all of my clothes, shoes and beauty products into a CARRY-ON. My husband’s jaw dropped when I rolled out my kid-sized suitcase. Space was definitely at a premium, but I luckily included my MVP (most valuable product) of the vacay: VMV Hypoallergenics Armada Moisturising Protective Lip Balm SPF 60+. The texture is ideal– not too oily, but not goopy either. One swipe kept my lips hydrated all day, and I love that it has such a high SPF, since the skin on your lips is extremely thin and sensitive to damage. It’s pricey, but a little goes a long way, so one tube will last you months. An added bonus: It doesn’t have any shimmer in it, so I got my husband hooked on it too.

Something to Smile About

A recent study by Orbit Complete found that 69% of people find women more attractive when they smile than when they are wearing makeup, and women generally smile more than men.mcx-white-smile-0510-msc

We were born to smile…literally: Babies start smiling in their sleep as newborns!

Young or old, no one wants a parched-looking pucker. Keep your lips moisturized this season with the lip products that make me smile:

  • Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Swivel Stick with Vitamin E: This moisturizer to soothe cracked lips may look like a glue stick, but it’s far from sticky—we keep it on our nightstand and smooth it on before snoozing.
  • EOS Lip Balm Smooth Sphere: This fun-to-use orb is addictive and tastes slightly sweet.
  • Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment: The combination of hydration, SPF and brown sugar is almost kissable itself!
  • Etsy Bare Balm: This can be applied with your finger and conveniently fits in your wallet or pocket.
  • What’s the lip product you can’t live without?

    Kiss of Approval

In preparation for Valentine’s Day last week, I scoured the beauty closet for the best products for my kisser. I’ve glossed, blotted, stained and have finally found the few that gave me the perfect pout.

    Stain it:

I admit it: I was afraid of  lip stain, but now I want to shout my devotion from the rooftops! My favorite was the Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstain in Wink of Pink. It gives the perfect hint of color that actually lasts the several hours that other lipsticks and glosses boast.  Since this product is a stain (so yes, it stains your lips), you need to make sure you pick the right color for your skin tone. Start off with neutrals to be safe, and if you choose something too bright, try layering gloss or tinted balm on top to mute or change the color.

    Smear it:

While I went with a stain for a bold punch of color, I loved MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Bare Again for its understated and easy-to-wear tone. It goes on like a lipstick, looks like a gloss and hydrates like lip balm: The lip product jackpot!

    Hydrate it:

Silky Korres Lip Butter is my pick to hydrate winter-worn pouts while providing a brightening kick of color. And the flavors are so yummy that you’ll never got back to ordinary balm again. My favorite: jasmine. Pucker up!
