Staffer Beauty Snoop: Beauty Intern Leah Cayson

Written on January 5, 2012 at 9:34 am , by

This week, new Beauty Intern Leah Cayson spills the details on her beauty style and can’t-live-without-it product picks.

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Feminine, classic and polished.
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes, Benefit They’re Real! Mascara and Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 in Bamboo Pink
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? After showering, I cleanse my face with Clean & Clear Advantage 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser and moisturize with Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer. I comb my hair and apply L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Force Vector Thermo Active Treatment. I love this product because it doesn’t feel like I have anything in my hair and it protects my strands while I blow-dry. While I allow my hair to absorb that product and air-dry a little, I apply makeup. I constantly change up products, but always use my three “can’t-live-without” products, above. After I apply my make-up, I blow dry my hair and I’m ready for the day!
At night? I take my makeup off with the Neutrogena wipes, above, then apply the same cleanser and moisturizer that I use in the morning.
Post-workout? I haven’t mastered the post-workout glow. I usually look like I jumped in a pool when I’m finished working out, so I have to shower!
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? My bi-weekly manicures and pedicures always make me feel great! I love playing with color and it just makes me feel good when my fingers and toes are bright and shiny.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? I’ve always thought people are more attractive when they smile, so I love for my teeth to be pearly-white.  I floss and brush my teeth twice a day and use whitening strips when I feel like my teeth aren’t as gleaming as they could be.

Staffer Beauty Snoop: Senior Editor Bethany Gumper

Written on November 10, 2011 at 9:34 am , by

In this week’s Staffer Beauty Snoop, Senior Editor Bethany Gumper shares her keep-it-simple beauty routine and tricks that keep her looking flawless:

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Ummm…lazy!
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleanser Wipes, Goody Spin Pin and Almay One-Coat Dial-Up Mascara. Ever since I got Lasik earlier this year, I’m more into eye makeup.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? After applying moisturizer, I slap on the only five products in my makeup bag in this order: concealer, eyeshadow primer, blush, eyeshadow and mascara. The end. My hair is pretty much just dry shampoo and go. If down isn’t happening, a high bun is cute and easy.
At night? Shower + air-dry my hair + brush teeth + floss + hair in a ponytail + zzzzzz!
Post-workout? I always take off my makeup before I work out (which explains my love for those Clean & Clear Wipes). So it’s really just about hopping in the shower. If I work out during lunch, I spray my hair with Charlotte Ronson A Perfect Mess Beach Hair after showering.
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? A massage. I don’t get them often, but when I do, I’m in heaven.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? My friend Carolina, who has gorgeous skin, has been using spray-on sunscreen since before it was cool. So she got me hooked. It’s especially important before I head out for a run—no more tank top tan lines! My go-to is Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Sunblock Body Mist SPF 45.

Staffer Beauty Snoop: Beauty Intern Jaclyn Smock

Written on September 8, 2011 at 11:03 am , by

This week’s Staffer Beauty Snoop is a bit of a twist, as the subject is me—Jaclyn Smock, the new beauty intern for fall 2011.  Read on for a peek at my primping rituals and must-haves!

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Feminine, warm and fresh.
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Physician’s Formula Mineral Correcting Powder, blush (right now I’m using Salma Hayek Nuance Blush in Apricot) and Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Perfume.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? I wash my face with Glo Therapeutics Clear Anti-Blemish Cleanser, then I moisturize with Clean & Clear Finishes Mattifying Moisturizer. Next, I spritz on Skindinavia 10 Years Younger Makeup Finish, which helps set my makeup and control my oil and shine. After I do what I call my “pre-face,” I put on Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 and set it with Physicians Formula Mineral Correcting Powder. My skin is very oily so I find that tinted moisturizer works best for my complexion. After my skin tone is evened out, I apply blush, then I add a little e.l.f. Mineral Black Eye Liner on my bottom lids and finish with Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara. Once I’m done with my face, I move onto hair: I work some John Frieda Take Charge Curl Boosting Mousse through my curls, finish with a little bit of TRESemmé Climate Control Finishing Spray, and I’m out the door. This may sound like a lot but it only takes me 15 minutes!
At night? I remove the day’s makeup with Neutrogena Night Calming Cleansing Cloths, wash my face with my cleanser, and top with moisturizer. To finish off my nightly routine, I put Physicians Formula Dark Spot Corrector and Skin Brightener all over my face. The color weirded me out at first (it’s brown) but it really does work!
Post-workout? Once I’m done working out, I head home to shower and wash my face. When I get out, I moisturize and spray Glytone  Acne Back Spray on to ensure that I never get bacne!
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? Facials—I love everything about them! I have done at-home versions before, but I still prefer a pro facial. I truly believe in monthly facials, if your budget permits. Facials quickly resolve most skin concerns and you leaving feeling so refreshed!
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? Know the difference between day and night makeup. I believe in light eye makeup during the day then going dramatic at night to really look alluring.

Staffer Beauty Snoop: Art Intern Heidi Smith

Written on August 18, 2011 at 9:52 am , by

Next up in our Staffer Beauty Snoop series, Art Intern Heidi Smith shares her quick and simple beauty tips, tricks and obsessions:

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Fresh, relaxed and playful.
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Clean & Clear Morning Glow Oil Free SPF 15 Moisturizer, Soft Lips Lip Balm SPF 20 and Maybelline Great Lash Blackest Black Mascara.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? I put my makeup on while my hair is still wet to save time and let my hair air dry as much as possible to save it from the blowdryer. I like an easy, fast routine.
At night? Before bed, I wash off all my makeup and put on moisturizer.
Post-workout? I don’t like when I see girls with caked-on makeup at the gym. I want my skin to breathe, so I keep my face clean while I workout and wear only sunscreen. Afterward, I jump in the shower.
What beauty product instantly makes you feel good when you use it? A light-textured lip gloss like Lancôme Paris Juicy Tubes Lip Gloss. Anytime I’m nervous, like before a date or special event, I put on this gloss and it instantly makes me feel sexy and more confident.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? Don’t wear mascara at the beach or pool: Raccoon eyes are not attractive!

Tried-It Tuesday: Get Shine-Free Skin

Written on December 7, 2010 at 6:01 am , by

It’s no secret that I have an oily complexion. It seems like the more I try to fight it, the worse it actually gets. Instead of battling it with harsh chemicals and rubbing alcohol, I’ve learned a few tricks along the way to work with my slick skin:

Moisturize- Never skip the moisturizer. If you skimp out on moisturizer your skin actually produces more oil because it’s thirsty. We like Origins Zero Oil moisturizer with Saw Palmetto & Mint. It’s super-lightweight and hydrating, with a hint of salicylic acid to instantly reduce shine.

Go oil-free- Look for foundations and powders that are free of added oils that can build up on top on your already oily skin. I like MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. It goes on smooth and the result is a matte look that helps minimize the appearance of oil.

Blot away- To get rid of excess oil during the day, I never leave the house without blotting sheets. My favorite are Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets. They soak up the oil without smudging your makeup—and they’re compact enough to fit in your pocket, which is great for the on-the-go girl!
