Staffer Beauty Snoop: Senior Editor Bethany Gumper

Written on November 10, 2011 at 9:34 am , by

In this week’s Staffer Beauty Snoop, Senior Editor Bethany Gumper shares her keep-it-simple beauty routine and tricks that keep her looking flawless:

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Ummm…lazy!
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleanser Wipes, Goody Spin Pin and Almay One-Coat Dial-Up Mascara. Ever since I got Lasik earlier this year, I’m more into eye makeup.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? After applying moisturizer, I slap on the only five products in my makeup bag in this order: concealer, eyeshadow primer, blush, eyeshadow and mascara. The end. My hair is pretty much just dry shampoo and go. If down isn’t happening, a high bun is cute and easy.
At night? Shower + air-dry my hair + brush teeth + floss + hair in a ponytail + zzzzzz!
Post-workout? I always take off my makeup before I work out (which explains my love for those Clean & Clear Wipes). So it’s really just about hopping in the shower. If I work out during lunch, I spray my hair with Charlotte Ronson A Perfect Mess Beach Hair after showering.
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? A massage. I don’t get them often, but when I do, I’m in heaven.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? My friend Carolina, who has gorgeous skin, has been using spray-on sunscreen since before it was cool. So she got me hooked. It’s especially important before I head out for a run—no more tank top tan lines! My go-to is Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Sunblock Body Mist SPF 45.

Poppy King

Now, she’s bringing her pout expertise to the masses with a limited edition line of seven lipsticks for drugstore brand Boots, rolling out in Target stores next week for $10 each. Above, a sneak peek at the creamy, shimmer-free shades, which come wrapped in adorable polka dot boxes (our favorite: peachy pink Allure, second from left).

Favorite Find Friday: Proactiv Smoothing Primer

Written on November 4, 2011 at 7:01 am , by

Suffering from oily skin often feels like the ultimate complexion affliction, what with makeup running and cracking off, visible pores, erupting blemishes, etc. But, with the right primer, like Proactiv Smoothing Primer, even those with the oiliest face can have a matte complexion. It glides on with a gel consistency that minimizes imperfections, then morphs into a powder as it dries to absorb excess oil. Plus, its non-comedogenic formula won’t clog pores or cause breakouts.

Tell us:  Do you use a primer? If so, why, and what’s your favorite?

Top Three Fall Favorites

Written on November 3, 2011 at 10:28 am , by

Autumn is my favorite season of the year (hands-down!), so I’m always trying to find ways to incorporate little fall touches into my daily life. Here are three ways you can get in the seasonal mood:

Suds up with a seasonal body wash. Philosophy Pumpkin Spice Muffin Body Wash is incredibly moisturizing and gives my whole bathroom a Thanksgiving-esque, fresh-baked pumpkin pie scent…yum!

Try on a new fall hair color. After an accidental color mishap, Mel Galiano, a genius colorist at the Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon in NYC turned my botched, too-dark color into a warm caramel brunette with bright, sunkissed ends. Crisis, averted!

A pumpkin facial: Pumpkins are packed with mild enzymes and vitamin C, which (when applied topically) can exfoliate your skin by dissolving dead skin cells. The Sense Spa at the Carlyle Hotel in NYC offers a great seasonal facial from now through November 30th. (A supercool touch: They keep your slippers in a heater, so they’re warm and toasty when they put them back on at the end of the facial!) Can’t make it to the spa? Renee Rouleua’s Pumpkin Smoothing Peel will make even tired skin gleam.

Am I missing any fall beauty products that you love? What’s your favorite season of the year and why?
