Our April “Raise the Bar” Beauty Buys page is bursting with our favorite soaps for skin and hair. Another that’s recently taken up residence in our shower: One Just 4 Me! Brown Sugar Oatmeal Natural Body Soap, a creamy, gently sudsing bar that’s flecked with real bits of oatmeal, so it exfoliates as it cleanses. It makes our skin feel soft, not tight, and we love the subtly sweet scent it leaves behind. What’s the best bar soap you’ve tried?

As a college student, my schedule can get a little hectic. Unfortunately, my tired skin is often a dead giveaway of a stressful week.
When a term paper threatens my complexion, I turn to Skyn Iceland the Antidote Quenching Daily Lotion ($45). The invigorating formula (free of harsh chemicals) refreshes and rejuvenates my skin. I use it morning and night—and sometimes even smooth a little on my T-zone during my 2P.M. slump.
The lotion reduces redness, prevents breakouts and calms irritated skin. After a tough spinning class, it’s the perfect antidote to my red, splotchy face. Just because the going gets tough doesn’t mean your skin has to! How do you treat your over-worked skin?

Yesterday was FITNESS magazine’s annual half-marathon, so I know that the 8,000 women who participated are probably pretty sore today. I had a BLAST running the race. It was so uplifting, motivating and encouraging to see all of these women cheering for each other and genuinely wanting each other to succeed. Here are some stretching exercises to aid your recovery from Mathilde Thomas, founder of Caudalie and the Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa at The Plaza:
- Standing, holding the left ankle with the left hand, pull backwards to feel the stretch, switch foot.
- Lying on your back, bring one knee to your chest. Hold for 30 seconds. Do the same with the opposite leg. Then bring both knees to your chest and hold for 30 seconds.
- Lying on your back with one leg on the floor; the other leg is bent, place a rope (or towel) on the ball of the foot, hold the rope and straighten to stretch.
- Facing the wall at arms distance, place one foot close to the wall and bend that knee and arms to stretch opposite calve. Switch legs.
- Place ball of foot on the edge of stairs, lower one heel, then switch.
- Sit with both legs straight. Loop a rope around the ball of one foot and pull each end of the rope. Flex your feet.
- Bend as if you are going to touch your toes and hang. At each exhale lower your hands. Slowly roll back up one vertebra at a time.

We usually stick to solid polish on our nails, but these funky new trends may inspire us to expand our horizons:
This twist on the classic French manicure has been hot since it appeared on the runway at numerous shows this spring, and the likes of fashion risk-takers such as Rihanna and Lady Gaga have been seen wearing it.
When we saw this outside-the-box nail trend, we couldn’t help think of a little spring ladybug (admit it – you see it too!) The flirty and feminine split nail is a fresh way to wear your favorite spring hues. While this, and the half moon above, are styles better left to nail technicians, we think the split nail is definitely worth a salon splurge.
A matte finish is a cool switch from the traditionally glossy nail. A product like Butter London’s Matte Finish gives any polish a matte look in one coat.
We usually try to avoid chipping our polish, but the new crackle lacquers actually add a textured, chipped look to nails. We’d layer a crackle top coat like OPI Black Shatter over our regular hue for a fun night out with friends. Which of these nail trends will you try?

We all have days when we need something that makes us look alive—fast. A dusting of pinky-peach, slightly glimmery TheBalm Hot Mama! Blush/Shadow does the trick for us: In seconds, we have a healthy, just-in-from-the-outdoors flush, and our bags/dark circles are less noticeable. You can even swipe it on lids and lips for a pulled-together look in a flash. What’s your favorite beauty-boosting product?
