The FITNESS beauty department loves Nigel Barker's new book, Beauty Equation: Revealing a Better and More Beautiful You. And not only because it features photos Nigel took of our Beauty Director, Eleanor Langston (with her husband), and our Associate Beauty Editor, April Franzino (with her mom—see both below, along with a behind-the-scenes shot of Nigel and April). In the book, Nigel uses his 20 years of experience in the industry to cast aside the conventional rules of beauty. He goes into depth on self-image, and shares tons of tips from beauty insiders. A few of my favorites:
- When applying foundation, try using a sponge that has been moistened with water first. This will help dilute the product and give you a sheer and even application.
- Pick one feature to emphasize: your lips, cheeks or eyes, and play it up while you downplay the others.
- When wearing the right clothes, any body type can look great; the key is balancing your ensemble to create an even, uniform look.
