I'm Short on Time: How Can I Deep Condition My Hair?

Deep conditioning is essential for healthy hair, but what do you do when you don't have time? Our expert has hair care tips when you're strapped for time.

Q. I know I should use a deep conditioner on my hair, but I never have time. Any tricks?

A. Sleep on it! New hair masks, made with repairing proteins and moisturizers, are meant to go on dry hair before bed. "The longer conditioner soaks into strands, the tamer they'll look," says April Webster, a stylist in Portage, Michigan. The p.m. products absorb instantly -- no worries about stained pillowcases. My favorite: Redken Real Control Overnight Treat, $20, redken.com for locations. For a similar effect, shampoo and air-dry locks until they're damp, then comb in a half-dollar size dollop of your usual conditioner, Webster suggests. Protect your pillow with a towel while you snooze, then rinse hair in the morning.
