Confused and Discouraged

I'm a 39 year old female at 5'11, 206 pounds. My doctor has told me that I need to lose at least 30 pounds and so about a month ago, I started trying to change my eating habits and incorporate some exercise. I tried to lean toward whole wheat, lean proteins, such as chicken and fish, more vegetables, almonds and yogurt, etc. I haven't really been counting calories, just trying to make healthier choices, since I want to make a life change; but I haven't lost one pound, What should I do?

The changes you're making sound good. I would start writing down all the foods you're eating and portions, each meal and snack. This will increase your awareness and allow you to see about how many calories you are eating each day. Without that info, it's a guessing game ... and it's very easy to eat more calories than we think we are.

Take a second look at the foods you're eating. From personal experience, the most important thing is to watch your sugar intake; a lot of "healthy" foods are loaded with extra sugar, chemicals or other harmful ingredients you wouldn't have imagined. The more fresh, whole foods without ingreidents lists the better, but when lists are there read EVERY one, and if you don't know what's in it, don't eat it. Even real, fatty foods (i.e. organic butter) are less dangerous than artifical concauctions.
