This Woman Kept an Instagram Weight-Loss Diary and Lost 144 Pounds

When Emma Pope was at her heaviest, she weighed a whopping 319 pounds. After feeling sick and tired of all the bullying and body-shaming, she finally decided it was time to make a change.

"I had always been the big girl and one day it clicked to me, that I had the power to make that change," she told the San Antonio Express-News . "I was done being the fat girl. I wanted my inside to match my outside appearance."

So, Pope embarked on a four-year journey to lose the weight that had defined her as a person for so long. She began working out four times a week for an hour and a half each time while maintaining a healthy diet. She also chronicled her journey on Instagram to hold herself accountable.

Within the first two years of her weight-loss journey, Pope lost 80 pounds. "I think it's great to do it slowly so your mind has time to adapt to the physical change," she told My San Antonio. Over the next two years, she lost another 50 pounds and now weighs a healthy 175 pounds.

While wanting to be healthy and fit were huge motivational factors for Pope, she believes that it helped when her weight-loss story began gaining nationwide and international exposure. After being covered by media outlets like Elite Daily and the Daily Mail, she felt like she didn't have a choice but to continue working hard and setting an example for others.

"My life has changed tremendously. I cannot imagine where I would be if I hadn't made the positive change in my life," she said. "As bittersweet as it is, people treat you so different when you're not fat."

"Wanting to be a better, healthier person is what fueled my fire. Having people bully me and then turn around and apologize years later after seeing how successful my life turned out was just the cherry on top of it all."
