Tasty Recipes to Add Turmeric to Your Life
Maybe you've heard of turmeric before, or have seen the bright orange-yellow spice in the grocery store, but you still aren't sure if it's worth all the hype, or even what it tastes like. This super-powered spice is getting attention for its possible health-boosting qualities as well as its unique taste.
The main active component of turmeric is curcumin, an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties, says registered dietitian Hannah Mason. One study even found it to be just as effective as ibuprofen at relieving pain from osteoarthritis. "Curcumin may also be effective at preventing colon cancer, stomach upset, and diabetes. However, more human research is needed," Mason says. Meaning it's too early to make any turmeric-based promises.
To get your dose of turmeric, you could take a supplement—Mason says they are generally recognized as safe and have few side effects. But if supplements aren't for you, or you just want to taste what turmeric is all about, try these 10 recipes that are not only filled with turmeric's nutritional goodness but also delicious.
