The Honey Cream Smoothie Recipe Inspired By the Flavors of Hawaii

 

With the promise of a burst of energy and delicious flavor, the perfect smoothie is at your fingertips. And no, it won't cost you $10 at your local juicery. Marcel Vigneron, chef and owner of LA's WOLF and Beefsteak, has the ideal recipe for an afternoon pick-me-up or a morning starter.

"This drink was inspired by one of my trips to Hawaii, and we'd drink it before and after surfing," says Vigneron. It's packed with pineapple and coconut, and the island flavors aren't all sugary sweet, either. "It's full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties from the turmeric and black pepper." The black pepper and turmeric work in conjunction to bring out more of turmeric's benefits. "It's a perfect example of food synergy," he says. Honey Cream Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups pineapple, peeled and chopped
  • 1 small handful mint
  • 1 small handful cilantro
  • 1-inch knob fresh turmeric
  • 1-inch knob ginger
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • 1 pinch finely ground black pepper

Directions

Juice the herbs, then the pineapple, then the turmeric and ginger. Add coconut milk. Stir in chia seeds and pepper. Pour into a cup and enjoy!
