Ashlan Gorse has one sweet job: Covering the red carpet festivities at events including the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Golden Globes. She's also a correspondent for E! News, reporting on movie premieres, breaking entertainment news and the latest in fashion, beauty and fitness. Now that the 2011 red carpet season has slowed down and Ashlan has had a chance to catch her breath, the down-to-earth journalist took time to tell us about staying chiseled for those couture gowns and the music that keeps her moving.
How do you get in shape for red carpet season? Red carpet season is always so exciting. I watch what I eat for two weeks prior to each show and kick up my workouts. At the same time, I try to remember that it's supposed to be fun and try not to stress about a pound or two!
What does a day in your diet diary look like? I always eat breakfast—even if it's just a protein bar or a hard boiled egg. I have to be at work at 6 a.m., so breakfast is at my desk. Lunch is a some sort of salad and dinner is filled with either protein or veggies. I'm trying to cut down on how much meat I eat and try to eat organic and local. It's good for me and good for the environment. But I admit that I do indulge!
That's a really healthy attitude! What are your favorite treats? I love chocolate and wine, but just try to space it out. "Try" being the important word in that sentence! I say that a glass of wine or piece of bread isn't going to kill you. Take the time to enjoy life!
You've had a chance to interview plenty of A-list stars. Do you have any celebrity fitness idols? Cindy Crawford has always been my idol. She is my height, lean strong and beautiful. She isn't a waif and yet she's one of the most successful supermodels ever.
How do you stay in shape on the road? Do you work with a trainer? I don't have a trainer since my schedule is always in flux. But my fitness goals aren't crazy—I don't want to be able to bench press 100 pounds, I just want to be able to carry a 40-pound bag of dog food home. I know that when I'm traveling I will have limited options, so I cut myself some slack. That means I have to be more watchful the week before and after. I make sure to pack healthy snacks in my luggage like granola bars and almonds.
Ashlan says that "music is a must" during her workouts. "I will be the girl on the treadmill totally rocking out and mouthing the words," she adds. So we asked her to share the music that motivates her.

- "What a Feeling," Irene Cara
- "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," Whitney Houston
