Will Isometric Exercises Keep My Muscles Toned?

Which tones your muscles best: isometric or resistance exercises? Expert advice on the best body-buffing workouts.
Question: Can isometric moves keep my muscles toned?

Answer: Yes, but in a limited way. Isometric moves -- in which force is applied to an immovable object, such as when you push against a wall -- can help you maintain muscle, but you're only working in that one position. Traditional resistance exercises using heavy tension are more effective because you're moving through a full range of motion, so you'll work a greater percentage of muscle fibers. Lack equipment? Do body-weight moves like squats, lunges, and push-ups whenever possible.
