Stay Safe

"It's always a good idea to let someone know where you are going and how long you plan to be out for," says Hatfield. In addition, make sure you carry your ID, a map, and your phone in case you land in an area where you may have cell phone service and need help. If you're running toward the end of the day, pack a headlamp. If you happen to take a wrong turn on the trail and it gets dark too quickly, you'll be glad you came prepared.

Iżve used man made and game trails for years while hunting, now I am hooked on running them. Training only 3 months , my first 2013 race was the Mac Forest 50k, next will be a local 30k Run For The Hills, Siskiyou Out Back 50k, and the flagline 50k at the end of the summer. Anyone in Oregon should look up http://oregontrailseries.org/. There are some great runs to sign up for here. I hope this article sparks some interest in any road runners who read it, so give the trails a try.
