Ice skater Sasha Cohen, 26, wowed the world with her podium-worthy numbers at the Torino Olympics and the 2006 World Championships. Soon after, she opted to spend more time away from the rink. During her skating hiatus, you may have caught her as a guest judge on Project Runway or at work to support her favorite charities.
Now she's back on the ice for "The Caesars Tribute: A Salute to the Golden Age of American Skating" in December and keeping her skating options open for the future.
FITNESS: "What is your training regimen like on- and off-season?"
Sasha Cohen: "During the skating season, I'm on the ice a lot of the time creating numbers. But I'm also travelling a lot, so I work out in the gym, run, do core work, and use a Theraband for strength. Off-season, I like variety to keep it fresh and avoid injuries. I do yoga, Pilates, biking, and my favorite: running on the beach."
"Do you have any exercise tips for us?"
SC: "Find what you enjoy! Try out different things. If you don't like strength training, try forms of exercise that use your body weight for resistance, such as yoga or Pilates. No matter the format, it's important to be active. Exercise gets your blood flowing, gives you perspective, clears your head, and generally helps to balance life."
"What other female athlete would you most like to work out with?"
SC: "Any elite Olympic gymnast. They have such incredible power, strength, and balance."
"What is your favorite sport to watch besides skating?"
SC: "The energy of team sports is so fun, so I'd say football."
"How do you fuel your active lifestyle?"
SC: "I like to keep things on-hand, in case I get stuck in the arena or my car. Nuts, apples, and bananas are my top snacks, and when I'm out at a restaurant, I love chopped salads and sushi."
"Are you interested in throwing your hat into the ring for any other big competitions down the road?"
SC: "I'm keeping my options open, but I want to focus on the performing aspect of skating. I want to keep challenging myself and enjoy travelling."
