Healthy Ice Creams You'll Want to Eat All Summer

    Halo Top Ice Cream

One of the most popular healthy ice cream brands among the nutritionists is Halo Top. The reason? An entire pint only contains 240 calories, and it has 6 grams of protein per serving (24g for the whole pint). "I'm a huge fan of Halo Top Ice Cream for myself and my clients because it's a low-sugar, low-carb ice cream option made with all-natural ingredients and no synthetic growth hormones," says Heather Bauer, R.D., C.D.N., nutritionist and founder of Bestowed. Halo is simply made up of milk, cream, and eggs, and sweetened with stevia and erythritol. In addition, it's vegetarian, non-GMO, and gluten-free. "It does a good job of delivering on the decadent feel of ice cream for substantially fewer calories than the 'real' stuff," points out Molly Kimball, R.D., C.S.S.D. Note: Birthday Cake is one of their most popular flavors, but Bauer swears by their Mint Chip.

  • Forte Gelato

Forte Gelato is the perfect healthy ice cream. It consists of 160 calories per 4-ounce container, with 15 grams of protein and only natural ingredients. Gelato is typically lower in fat than ice cream—and in this case is fairly nutritious. "Beyond the fact that it is just about the most delicious gelato I've tasted (whether high protein or otherwise), the product is made with great, socially responsible ingredients and is low fat and much lower in calories than you'd expect," explains David S. Seres, M.D., Sc.M., P.N.S., director of medical nutrition at Columbia University Medical Center.

  • Enlightened Ice Cream

Enlightened is already known for its healthier snack options, and that includes its ice cream with no artificial sweeteners and 5 grams of fiber per serving. "I love Enlightened because it's delicious and has 10 grams of protein and only 70 to 80 calories per pop," says Carly Feigan, C.N. It's also the perfect sweet snack without putting your insulin levels into overdrive. "You want to avoid corn syrup and high-fructose corn syrup as an added ingredient, as they make the ice cream even more detrimental to blood sugar levels and pack on the pounds," adds Feigan.

  • Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Pops

Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt pops provide you with both probiotics and protein, thanks to the Greek yogurt. It's creamy and consists of flavors that any sweet tooth will love. With 5 grams of protein and only 80 to 100 calories per pop, it's no surprise this ice cream is popular. "The dose of protein helps with satiety and the adequate sugar isn't too much," raves Amy Shapiro, R.D.N., founder of Real Nutrition NYC. Sounds like the perfect post-workout treat!

  • ProYo Frozen Yogurt

Regular frozen yogurt may not be as healthy as people thought it was, but ProYo's Frozen Yogurt offers 20 grams of protein per 4-ounce tube, as well as probiotic cultures necessary to maintain a healthy digestive system. "I am a big fan of ProYo as they are made with the best ingredients, taste great and provide added nutritional benefits," says Richard Collins, M.D., also known as "The Cooking Cardiologist." At 140 calories and perfectly portioned size (reminiscent of those old-school Flintstones push pops), this frozen treat is hard to pass up!

  • Artci Zero Instagram

    Arctic Zero

"Arctic Zero technically isn’t an ice cream at all, as that definition requires more than 10% milkfat," says Molly Kimball, RD, CSSD. Instead it's thought of as a “fit frozen dessert.” Arctic Zero is low in calories – just 150 calories for an entire pint. It’s also naturally sweetened with zero-calorie monk fruit extract, a natural alternative to sugar. It's also perfect for those who can't handle dairy as it's whey-protein based and lactose free.
