Dancing With the Rockettes
FITNESS Editor Bethany learns how to dance like a Radio City Rockette and finds out how they stay in shape.
-Hi, I'm Bethany Gumper with Fitness and I am getting ready for my day of dancing with the Radio City Rockettes. I'm so excited. Let's go. Nice to meet you. The Rockettes shoes. It's the real thing. -Hey, do you guys wanna get started? -Yeah, let's get started. -So this is what rehearsal is like, 6 hours a day of dancing. -Now, your turn. -5, 6, 7, 8 and 1, 2, 3, 4, step 5, 6, 7. -5, 6, 7, 8. -Hi, I'm Allyson. -I'm Christine. -I'm Karen. -I'm Kristina. -I just had I just had a private dance lesson with these amazing ladies. I'm sweaty and I am tired and I'm really excited to hear more about how they got into this. -It's between 5.6 and 5.10-1/2 and like we taught you in the studio. It goes from tallest to shortest, so when you're looking at the stage, everyone---- it gives the illusion that we're all the same height. -Rehearsal is such a workout in itself but also most of us do yoga. We do---- we go to the gym. We do everything to try to maintain that core strength all year round. -Because during the show, we really don't have time to drink water, like relax----. -Not at all. -Because the costume changes is so quick, oftentimes there's people on the side that have little dixie cups full and you just get like a shot---- -A shot. - ---- and you go. -A shot and you go. -I mean, as much as you see it choreographed on stage, it's all choreographed off stage. -Yeah. -I think it would be amazing for someone to see like---- it's just all done like clockwork. I mean we have dressers that, you know, you work it out to the girl next to you---- who's gonna put the shoes on first. -There's a huge aspect of consistency. I mean, ultimately, we have to approach each show to the audience member that's seeing it for the first time. And it may be your fourth show of the day but it's their first time seeing it. -5, 6, 7, 8---- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7----
