Get healthy grocery shopping tips from Dawn Jackson Blatner, RD, for picking the right foods to make healthy salads.
Hello, I'm Dawn Jackson Blatner, registered dietitian with Fitness Magazine, and I'm here at Stop & Shop in Union, New Jersey in the produce section of the grocery store. Salads are great way to get in your veggies, but you don't have to start a salad with spinach or romaine lot of everyday. You can think outside of the typical salad bowl with a lot of good variety, something not just so boring so I want to eat fruits and vegetables everyday. So what I have are two great options of delicious, nontraditional salads. The first one is this basil and tomato salad. So it starts with fresh basil, tomato and a little bit of pine nuts on top to make a delicious salad with some lemon and maybe olive oil. And this is another salad that's kind of unique in flavor, carrots with a little fresh ginger grated and then I will kick off sweetness with soma raisins. So, the most important thing to remember is that we need to eat all of our fruits and vegetables each day, but don't do it in your boring way. Branch out and try a lot of variety and you will eat more.
