"The Good: Hands-down this is the best beginner cardio workout I've seen. The low-impact portion is exactly that. The moves are basic (squats, lunges, and arms) yet varied when you are looking for a change. And the music has an upbeat tempo that complements the workout. Plus -- and this is a biggie -- there's an option on the DVD with music solo. So once you get the routine down pat, you can up the intensity using the tempo as a cue. And while we're on the topic of technology, the customization tools on this bad boy are top-notch. You can design your workout at the beginning of your session, so there's no stopping and starting.
"The Bad: Don't get me wrong -- there was some great instruction here and watching the Losers keep with the steps was great. But my uber-cut friend Kim Lyons kept on telling me to "remember." "Remember, bla bla bla." "Remember bla bla balance." "Remember, keep it tight." Um, Kim what do you want me to remember? Form? Oh yeah, well you sort of failed to tell me exactly what that form should look like in the beginning. So, how in the heck can I remember something I haven't been told?
"The Ugly: I found Bob Harper's tatted arms and Maddox Jolie-Pitt faux-hawk beyond distracting. I also couldn't get a sense of his fitness level, since all he really did was talk. He wasn't really doing the moves with me. And he made some (what I'd call lame) attempts at correcting the Losers' form.
"The ultimate upswing to this DVD: Working out with the Losers. There was this one guy in the front who lost 157 pounds. Yep, you read right 157 big ones. That's more than the Olsen twins put together. So, when I was feeling like I was over the squats, I caught a glimpse of that guy in the front and I kept on keepin' on."
