The Why: Lately, pizza delivery has been lacking. The old faithful solution to my Friday night cooking strike hasn't been very reliable since the average delivery time reached 97 minutes. So I resorted to the freezer aisle -- home of the ominous Tombstone, etc. And for those of you who are with me, I've got a great new alternative for Friday night dinner (or Tuesday lunch, or whenever). Kashi, one of our frozen food faves, now has healthy pizza, in several great flavors.
The Health Bonus: The ingredients in Kashi's all-natural frozen pizzas are minimally processed and they contain whole grains, which means they're high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. Each serving provides between 4 and 5 grams of fiber, 8 grams of whole grains, and 15 to 19 grams of protein. Two of the flavors -- the Mediterranean and Five-Cheese -- are vegetarian.
What We Liked Best: All three flavors are great. The smell of these pizzas cooking sort of made us glad that the pizza delivery guy decided to take so long.
What We Liked Least: Be careful about the serving size on these. If you're used to the portion control of most frozen meals, you might be used to the "one box = one portion" rule that usually applies. But in the case of these pizzas, it doesn't. One pizza is three servings.
What It Replaces: Any number of delivered or frozen food pizza choices that are made with white flour and refined and unnatural ingredient choices.
