A ginormous bowl that includes fried items, corn niblets, gravy, and cheese cannot POSSIBLY be Hungry Girl approved, can it? Ummmm, YES it can. We promise! Our swapped-out version of this Kentucky Fried MESS will save you more than half the calories and most of the fat. We rock! But we must confess, this recipe was inspired by one of our faithful subscribers, who e-mailed in to tell us that she and her boyfriend make their own version of these bowls at home. Thanks, Angie!
Ingredients1 cup cubed butternut squash
1 oz. skim milk
2 tbsp. canned corn niblets; heated
1/2 oz. fat-free cheese, cheddar or American; shredded
2 oz. Heinz Fat Free Classic Chicken Gravy; heated
1 Morningstar Farms Chik Patty, Original
Salt and pepper; to taste
In a covered dish, microwave butternut squash pieces for 4 to 6 minutes (until tender) in a very small amount of water. Drain very well and then mash squash with the skim milk and a little salt. Place mashed squash in a medium-sized bowl. Next, sprinkle corn niblets over your squash. Prepare "chicken" patty according to package and cut into small pieces. Place patty pieces on top of your corn-topped squash. Drizzle with gravy. Top with shredded cheese and enjoy!

When we first saw the commercials on TV for KFC's Famous Bowls, several things crossed our minds. First, we wondered how a brand-new offering could be called "famous" right out of the gate (a tad presumptuous, no?). Then, our curiosity turned to sheer DISGUST as we watched the fatty ingredients PILE up before our horrified eyes. Mashed potatoes, buttery corn, gravy, fried chicken, AND cheese!?! Yikes! Was this some sort of joke? As unfunny as this monstrosity of a "meal" is, we have to admit it does look pretty delicious (sorry, it just does). That being said, we're not suggesting you do something CRAZY like order one of these from the Colonel (eek!). Instead, just throw together one of HG's KFC-Ya Later Bowls at home. You'll save oodles of calories and fat grams. Yay!
