Great Fakes: 5 Beauty Tricks That Transform

Five amazing beauty innovations that will transform you.

The Fakeout: Exotic Eyes

Want to amp up your look? Give your "real" routine the boot. These breakthroughs will make it seem like you've got grade A genes or the daily services of a beauty pro. Try these tricks and you'll have lush lashes, voluminous locks, and the perfect, chip-free manicure. Who said you should never fake it?

The Fakeout: Exotic Eyes

"Colored contacts look natural and can brighten up your eyes without makeup," says Romero Jennings, a senior artist for M.A.C Cosmetics.

Get the look: Visit an eye doctor to get fitted -- even if you have 20/20 vision, you'll need to get a prescription. Choose a shade that will highlight the color you were born with -- emerald green or bright blue makes hazel and brown eyes sparkle, while aquamarine over blue becomes an amazing turquoise.

Try: Acuvue 2 Colours, acuvue.com, for information and a free trial pair.

The Fakeout: Full Hair

"Extensions can give you gorgeous hair without tons of heat and styling products," says Eliut Rivera, owner of Salon Eliut Rivera in New York City, who maximizes the manes of J. Lo and Sheryl Crow.

Get the look: Use extensions that blend with your shade and texture. To add volume, separate sections, apply a light holding spray at the roots, then clip in pieces that are the same length as your real hair, close to your scalp. To make it look like you've been growing your hair out for years, use strands that are four to five inches longer than your current style. Part hair from ear to ear, then clip extensions underneath the top layer, close to your scalp.

The Fakeout: Perfect Brows

"Enhance your arch and fix tweezer mishaps and you'll have great eyebrows," says Ramy Gafni, owner of RamySpa in New York City.

Get the look: Fill in barely-there brows with a clear gel that contains hairlike fibers -- it will look more natural than pencil. Click the wand a few times to dispense the solution, then swipe across your entire brow from base to tip, using the built-in comb to brush hairs and shape your arch.

The Fakeout: Lush Lashes

"False eyelashes instantly awaken the eyes and add definition and length better than any mascara," says Jennings.

Get the look: Choose a style that matches your lash color and is slightly longer than your own lashes. Dot a layer of glue along the band and on each tip, then wait 30 seconds for it to get tacky. Look downward in a mirror as though you're applying mascara, and place lashes into your lash line -- you'll have another 30 seconds to adjust them before the glue dries. Use a black or brown waterproof gel eyeliner to conceal gaps.

The Fakeout: Flawless Manicure

"Stick-on polish means no drying," says Skyy Hadley, owner of As U Wish Nail Spa in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Get the look: Prep nail beds with an acetone-free polish remover. Find the precut enamel strip that best fits each nail, then peel away the adhesive and place the base directly above your cuticle (with the sticky side against your nail). Smooth down the surface with your finger until it wraps over your nail's edge, then tear away excess. Apply a clear top coat every few days for extra shine.
