Music Monday: Party Like It’s Your Birthday Playlist!

Written on March 26, 2012 at 4:54 pm , by

My sweat-tastic best friends and I!

Last week I had my birthday bash at my home away from home, SoulCycle—let’s just say I’m totally embracing the new party workout trend that’s taking place all over Manhattan (check it out HERE!). When fitness and working out is your lifestyle like it is mine, sitting bar side at your fave restaurant just doesn’t do it anymore—plus how many times can we do the same thing year after year? That’s why front row seats at my favorite Danny Kopel Thursday evening class was a must-do to celebrate none other than the day I was born. Tap backs, push-ups and a little choreography mixed into it, having my birthday party at SoulCycle was sort of like a no-brainer. When a spinning studio IS the party, that’s where I want to be.

My good friend and FITNESS Half-Marathon blogger, Olivia Ward, jazzed up my spinning bike!

Instead of downing an insane amount of cocktail calories, my best friends and I sweated out hundreds each—and we had just as much fun doing it too. (This class was extra special indeed as we were also celebrating the birthday of late Clare Veronica Walsh, a SoulCycle instructor and friend who passed away late last year. We miss you!)

Party workouts are here to stay and if your class or favorite studio doesn’t put on the show, bring your friends, wear a tiara and sweat your birthday away with your favorite people anyway!

Check out this awesome playlist from SoulCycle instructor, Danny Kopel.

Music Monday: Our Hunger Games Soundtrack!

Perhaps the stars of the film listened to tunes like these while training to be tributes? (Photo courtesy of Shutterstock)

Just like much of the rest of the country, we are caught up in The Hunger Games hoopla. The books kept us riveted, and they earn bonus points for having so many fitness-related angles. The running! The climbing! The swimming! That’s why we decided to declare this “Hunger Games Week” here on The Fit Stop. We’ll have at least one HG post daily to help you prepare for the big premiere on Friday.

To kick things off, we crafted a #MusicMonday playlist full of songs inspired by the sure-to-be-hit film. Sure, there’s an official soundtrack for the movie, but we’re partial to this eclectic mix of gym-ready tracks that will inspire you to get into tribute shape.

Music Monday: Feeling Lucky

We can't see the pot of gold at the end, but the view during this hike sure is nice! (Photo courtesy of Shutterstock)

St. Patrick’s Day is in less than one week, and we’re feeling lucky to have an early dose of spring weather. Perfect to enjoy during outdoor workouts (maybe even after work with the extra evening light?)! In honor of the holiday coming up this weekend, we’re listening to these rocking tracks performed by Irish bands or related to the 17th.

True, this winter has been surprisingly mild for most of America. Yet we’re still excited to spring forward this Sunday and score some more afternoon sunshine for post-work workouts! To celebrate, we’re downloading this warm weather-inspired playlist which will act as a soundtrack for our outdoor fitness activities this season:

Music Monday: The Super-Motivating Playlist

House says the key is to think about one step at a time. (Photo courtesy of Shutterstock)

Ever have one of those days when you just don’t feel like working out? You’re not the only one. So we asked Laurel House, the QuickieChick, what she does to stay motivated and we loved her idea so much we had to share! “I challenge myself to run for one song. Almost every time, that song turns into two, oftentimes three. The other day it was seven!” House says.

The key to crafting a killer playlist? Find songs that you enjoy and make sure they play back-to-back so you don’t get sidetracked, House suggests. Here are some of her all-time favorites:

Music Monday: An Upbeat Treadmill-Ready Mix

Written on February 20, 2012 at 10:37 am , by

When our playlists are feeling a bit stale, we turn to Deekron, also known as The Fitness DJ, to help us switch things up. He’s been a friend of FITNESS for years, but word is getting out—he was recently nominated for a Shorty Award (which honors the best in social media) and his recent Treadmill Coach workout album climbed to #3 on the iTunes charts in the Fitness and Workout category!

These songs can help your power through your next workout. (Photo courtesy of Shutterstock)

We challenged Deekron to put together a fun, 30-minute playlist of uptempo songs from different genres. And he delivered! His ”Run Around” mix, which he created exclusively for FITNESS readers, would be the ideal soundtrack for your next run, gym trip or dance session.

The right songs are the best way to switch up a stale routine. (Photo courtesy of Peter Ardito)

You already know that doing the same moves over and over will cause you to hit a weight loss plateau, but did you know the same is true with your choice of tunes? Running, biking, or doing anything with the same playlist on repeat can cause you to go into autopilot, meaning your not pushing yourself at every workout.

Update your iPod with the help of our readers, who gave us their favorite firm and burn beats.

@onebabs1: I Got It From My Mama—Will.I.Am

@Hungry_Runner: A dance remix of Skyscraper by Demi Lovato. Those lyrics with a pumped up beat can make anyone feel unstoppable.

@aizahabban: You Can Be the One—Late Night Alumni

@dani4nier: Breakin’ a Sweat—Skrillex

@jsalomonsson: Levels—Avicii

@Tosh_74: Good Feeling by Flo Rida and Enter Sandman by Metallica

@lkhattendorf: Live Like We’re Dying by Kris Allen. Fast tempo and makes you think about what’s important. Perfect for a workout!

@KayRVaz: Good Good Night—Roscoe Dash

@DrSomji: El Camino by The Black Keys for running!

@NATAgneiD: Where Have You Been by Rihanna. Gets me pumping!

@Randilizm: Drop It Low—Kat DeLuna

Now tell us: What’s your favorite song to work out to lately?
