Here it is. The homestretch to 2014. What lies between now and next year are potentially weeks of unbridled eating and holiday abandon. But in the spirit of “the best defense is a good offense,” Flywheel studios may just yet give your year, ahem, a tight end.
The hip indoor cycling chain is kicking off what it calls a Holiday Express Challenge on Monday, December 2 (Yes, this coming Monday, after you’ve polished off the last slice of pie). Your mission for the following 21 days, if you choose to accept it: Take five classes per week. At Flywheel studios that also offer sculpting classes, the split will be three FlyBarre classes and two Flywheel classes.
The Holiday Express Challenge will also include a special workshop on techniques and a nutrition seminar for surviving all that party food. Check out Flywheel’s website to sign up or get more scoop.
So, who’s joining the challenge? We’re ready to get our rears in gear!

Ever dream about hanging with a celebrity trainer every week while you get your sweat on? Now you can – just head to Flywheel Sports and look for Brett Hoebel on the schedule (you watched – in awe, we’re sure – his capoeira skills on season 11 of The Biggest Loser). He’ll be teaching at their Los Angeles studios, and making guest appearances in New York City. We scored seats in his debut ride at Flywheel’s Flatiron studio, and couldn’t stop raving about his crazy beats on our walk back to the office. But you know we’re not the type of girls to keep those tunes all to ourselves, so of course we nabbed the playlist before we left. Now get on a bike, blast each song and prepare for a serious dose of sweat.

There’s little we love more in the world than a workout that benefits a good cause. Knowing that someone or some group is counting on you is just the extra dose of motivation you need to get out the door and get sweating! That’s why we were excited to hear about the sweet way Flywheel and Dylan’s Candy Bar are teaming up to officially start summer this weekend.
This Saturday, Flywheel co-founder Ruth Zukerman and Dylan’s Candy Bar CEO and founder Dylan Lauren (who also happens to be Ralph’s daughter) are hosting a charity cycling ride in the Hamptons to benefit the Monmouth County Shelter for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MCSPCA). Both Lauren and Zukerman love sweets—in moderation—almost as much as they adore animals, so their event coming up in the Hamptons is a match made in heaven. And the cause has special meaning to Lauren, who adopted her own Collie-Labrador puppy from MCSPCA earlier this year.
Riders can donate $30 to participate in the 45-minute candy-themed Flywheel class (a favorite of celebs including Sofia Vergara, Katie Couric and Hilary Swank), with proceeds going to the MCSPCA. After the ride, the feel-good high continues at Dylan’s Candy Bar, where participants will be treated to some of the lighter options, like the 100-Calorie Belgium Chocolate Bars.
If you’re interested in participating in this Memorial Day weekend event, email email@example.com to RSVP.
