Updating your wardrobe each season with the hottest, trendiest pieces can be overwhelming and exhausting, not to mention hard on your wallet. To help you navigate through all the fashion fuss, we’ve created a ‘Top 5 Trends’ list, which will instantly amp up your summer style game. Check in each week for our latest trend tip!
This week’s pick: the T-shirt. The best part about this trend is that you probably already own dozens, you just need a new way of styling them to make ‘em feel fresh for the season. Pair a slouchy tee (crushing on this one…splurge!) with a structured pencil skirt for a laid back, office-appropriate look—think casual Fridays–or toss a plunging v-neck on with a pair of destroyed boyfriend jeans and lots of layered boho necklaces for an easy weekend style.
If you’re ready to freshen up your closet with some new tees, check out some of our favorites below!
- Cut Out: Hardtail ($84, hardtailforever.com)
- Baseball: Hurley ($27, hurley.com)
- Crop: H&M ($7, hm.com)
- Graphic: Aerie, ($23, aerie.com)
- V-Neck: J.Crew ($30, jcrew.com)
- Muscle: American Eagle ($30, ae.com)
- Sweatshirt: Zoe Karssen ($130, net-a-porter.com)

We’re tired. Tired of talking about the cold, tired of dressing for the cold, and most definitely tired of running in the cold. And if we’re this tired of it, we’re pretty sure you are too. Lucky for us, it finally seems like temps are starting to creep above freezing, and we’re desperately waiting for the day when we can officially chuck our snow boots to the back the closet, never to be worn again…at least until next winter. Until then, we’re stock piling some of our favorite warm-weather trends, and what better way to break out of the winter blues than with a burst of red?
Call Me, Maybe?: Cell phones have become just as much of an accessory as our jewelry and handbags, so why not dress yours up in a ‘notice me’ color this spring? Our pick: ban.do’s Shazaam Red.
Baby Got Back: We’re suckers for cute undies, especially comfy boyshorts, like these from Aerie. Wear ‘em under your favorite flouncy skirt or when it’s time to hit the hay…we’ll leave that up to you.
Cutting Edge: Splits59 has quickly become one of our go-to active brands, and we’re obsessed with their super cozy sweats. This edgy top features a sexy cut-out neckline and thumbholes. Yes, please!
Watch Out: The best way to add a POC (pop of color) to your wardrobe without going overboard? A little wrist action. We can’t get enough of the fun designs from May28th.
Babe Watch: You don’t have to be Pam Anderson to look smokin’ hot in a red bathing suit. This sporty style will have you turning heads on spring break.
Kick Back: Flashy slip-on kicks are all the rage this season, but if fire engine red is too vibrant for your style, try a washed version instead!
Eye Candy: Ditch your boring black shades for a pair with some spunk. Hobie’s Dogpatch sunglasses have cool reflective (and polarized!) lenses to keep your eyes safe from the sun. Grab a red pair and be part of the limited edition crew!
Back Up: Hike through less-than-perfect weather this spring with this water-resistant backpack from Timberland. Your stuff will stay dry, and this poppy red will ensure that your hiking buddies won’t lose you along the trail.

Imagine waking up at the crack of dawn every day to paddle out into the ocean to catch waves and watch the sun rise. A dream, right? For one of the world’s leading female surfers, Lakey Peterson, this dream is a reality. The blonde bombshell has taken over the surf world, proving at a young age that she can hang with the big leagues. She’s known for her sick aerial moves and is the first female to ever perform an aerial maneuver in competition. At 19, she’s a true force to be reckoned with, and we talked with her about living the surf life, her favorite bikini, and rubbing elbows with marathoner Joan Benoit.
It seems like surfing requires you to have crazy strong legs. What are your favorite exercises to keep your legs beach ready?
Surfing is quite the leg burner! When I am training in the gym I do a lot of front and back squats, side lunges, box jumps and lots of explosive, quick sprints. Those are a few of my primary legs workouts to stay fit and looking good![Editor's note: For fit legs like Lakey, check out this Nike Training Club (NTC) workout.]
Those exercises must have been helpful when you were training for the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco, back in October. Since it was your first half-marathon, what would you say was your biggest challenge?
That was such an amazing race and I felt so honored to have been a part of it! My biggest challenge was staying on a strict training schedule. When I was training for it, I was literally right in the middle of my surf season so it was hard to balance surfing, gym training, and then the half-marathon training. But I did it and had so much fun! It pushed me to do something that I wasn’t sure I could do, but I got to prove myself wrong. I loved seeing all of the other women cross that finish line and achieve such a huge goal.
Any advice for first time half-marathoners?
A marathon is a big commitment for anyone. There will probably be times when you are training, or even when you are racing, that will make you want to quit. However, I can promise you that you can do it, and when you cross the finish line there is no better feeling. Make sure to enjoy it and be proud of yourself!

This Valentine’s Day will be the first one that I’ve spent solo in almost nine years (insert Beyonce’s Single Ladies dance here). Because I have a love-hate relationship with February 14th, I’m not totally bummed about not having plans (a night of rom-coms? Okay by me!), and knowing that there will be no pressure to find the perfect dress to be wined and dined in is a huge sigh of relief. But like most single gals, the thought of not receiving an embarrassingly large bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolate from a crush does sting a little. So instead of waiting for Mr. Right to suddenly appear and shower me with gifts, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands. Here’s how I’ll be spoiling myself this V-Day, with a little love from some of my favorite jewelry designers. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, ladies!

If you could play a round of golf with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be? Leo Dicaprio is at the top of my list (obvi), but for Lexi Thompson, one of the LPGA’s hottest and youngest stars, Michael Jackson, Kellan Lutz and Tiger Woods all make the cut. Talk about a group of all-stars. Can I be your caddie, Lexi?
For the 18-year-old Florida native, golf has always been a way of life. Growing up she stayed active by playing basketball and soccer, but putting was what she was best at. And it runs in the family – she grew up on the course (this chick started playing when she was just five years old!) watching her older brothers, Nick, who is currently on tour with the PGA, and Curtis, who is on a full golf scholarship at LSU, sink putts. With a little bit of their help and some major determination, Lexi soon became the youngest person to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open in 2007, at the ripe age of 12. Seriously, that’s one superstar family!
Since practice makes perfect, Lexi spends a lot of time, both on and off the course, working out and staying fit. While training for a competition, she hits the gym three to four times a week with her trainer, Craig Slaunwhite (he’s the strength & conditioning coach for the NHL’s Florida Panthers), and takes hot yoga classes. When Lexi isn’t kicking butt and winning championships (her latest was the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in November), she’s hosting clinics for young golfers. Her most important piece of advice: have fun. “I always tell people to go out and practice with a group of friends, and just have fun. Don’t grind yourself down!” So the next time we’re struggling at the driving range, we’ll have to remind ourselves of that!
For a peek inside our interview with Lexi, check out the video below!

You’ve indulged more than you’d like to admit this holiday season, and now it’s time get back out there and burn some serious calories. But thinking about getting out of your warm bed at 6am to head to the gym seems less than appealing, right? Getting dressed is half the battle, so leave the excuses and whining at home, and take on the cold with some of winter’s best accessories and layers.
- Nike’s Aeroloft vest is the perfect layering piece for winter runs. It’s super lightweight (800-fill goose down!), so it keeps you warm without weighing you down.
- Whether you’re heading to the gym or venturing out for a snowy run, this Under Armour Charged Cotton Storm beanie will keep your noggin dry in the worst conditions. UA’s water-resistant storm technology wicks away moisture to help keep you dry longer, so using weather as an excuse to slack-off is not an option!
- Editor tested, athlete approved. Altheta’s Queen of the Mountain jacket is on the top of our list for keeping warm while being active this winter. And with 360* reflective detailing, you’ll be fully visible during those early morning or late night workouts.
- Sometimes all you need is a little color to get you inspired and out of your rut. These Saucony Space Dye Run gloves will add a fun pop to your outfit, and are sure to get you motivated and out on the streets.
- Jumping into a workout with cold muscles can cause injuries, so when you head to your next barre or Pilates class, try a pair of flats to help keep your tootsies warm. Blake Brody has tons of cute options, but the colorful braided strap on the Leah flat is just too good to pass up.
- Headed to the mountain? Keep your ears warm with the Bauhaus Knitted headband from Sweaty Betty. The fun jacquard print will make you stand out on the slopes, while staying put for extra comfort.
- Layer up for your next savasana sesh with Lululemon’s Savasana socks. The cozy merino wool will keep your toes toasty both in and out of the studio.

Drop the Christmas sweater! We repeat: Drop the Christmas sweater! And while you’re at it, ditch your sequin dress, plaid shirts and candy cane earrings. This holiday season, we don’t want you to look like a walking Christmas present, so we’ve pulled together some tips that will have you acing holiday style, without looking like you belong under the tree.
We love a good ugly Christmas sweater party, but they call them that for a reason. There are other ways to be festive on Christmas without sporting Rudolph all day. We suggest layering a crisp white shirt under an oversized cozy cable knit or funnel neck sweater, like the one below. It reeks of chicness, and if grandma asks why you didn’t wear the sweater she got you last year, just show her pictures from that party you went to. We think she’ll approve. To wear tights, or not to wear tights? That is the question. We all face it this time of year (at least those of us living in cities with freezing temps), so why not nix it all together and opt for pants instead? Sure, a dress or skirt might feel like the right option for your holiday bash, but a cool pair of leather pants and some sexy pumps can have the same effect without the goosebumps and the chills.

We love when fashion and fitness join forces, so we were especially excited to get sweaty at the Pink Pony Ride hosted by our friends at Ralph Lauren and SoulCycle. Ralph Lauren generously donated the cost of each attendee’s ride to the Pink Pony Fund of the Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation, which benefits cancer care and prevention, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Two of our favorite things coming together in one place for a good cause= one super inspiring night!
Pink Pony’s mission is to reduce disparities in cancer care in medically underserved communities, and ensure that treatment is available at an earlier, more curable stage. The Pink Pony Fund is internationally recognized (currently in 20 countries!) and by donating 25 percent of the purchase price from each Pink Pony product sold in the U.S. (shop the collection here…we’re totally loving these sweatpants!), the initiative has been able to support programs for screening, early diagnosis, treatment, research and patient navigation.
And the best part, Mr. Lauren (as in the Ralph Lauren), is totally hands on with this project.
“Over 20 years ago, I lost a good friend to cancer, and I promised that I would do my best to fight the disease that took her life. Watching the incredible progress we have made—to not only raise money to fight cancer but also to educate and support people, particularly those in underserved communities, navigate the sometimes isolating experience of patient treatment—is the greatest gift I could ever receive.”

With the craziness of New York Fashion Week behind us, we have to admit, we’re feeling a bit overwhelmed. We saw Spring ’14 walk the runways while wearing our Summer ’13 wardrobe and prepping for Winter ’14 in the office. If you’re confused, just imagine how we feel! Our heads are spinning with thoughts of summer dresses and winter whites. But hey, it’s all about living in the present, right? So we’re taking a step back to enjoy this season’s top trends. And you can too, with a few of our tips on how to look your best this fall.
The Look: Slouchy Pants
To master this tricky trend, you want to make sure you have a balanced silhouette. Instead of hiding your trouble spots – too much fabric on top can actually make you look bigger than you really are – the key is to wear a form-fitting top to offset your billowy pants. Three pairs we’re crushing on: Elizabeth & James, Vince, and Robert Rodriguez
The Look: Military
Camo might be our favorite trend this season, and we’re totally digging structured military style jackets. In order to make it work though, you can’t go into military overload. Camo on camo? Too much. Stick to one standout piece and keep the rest of your look simple. Fatigues that we’re loving: J.Crew, Gap, Monrow
The Look: Grunge-Inspired Boots
This fall we’re channeling our inner ’90s girl and shopping for grunge-inspired boots. We like the idea of pairing such a rough-around-the-edges style with something a little unpredictable, so try a girly dress or skirt. Mixing-and-matching these styles gives you the edge you desire, while still keeping a little girly mystery. Styles we’re stocking up on: Ash Footwear, Lucky Brand, Matt Bernson
And if you haven’t seen our story on how to style jackets this fall, be sure to check that out here!

Hut, hut, hike! From nailgating to tailgating, we think we’ve kicked football season off the right way. But we want to show you how to showcase your team spirit and still look super cute, without looking like you’ve raided your boyfriend’s closet. Leave that oversized, shapeless jersey at home, and show up to your Sunday Funday hotspot wearing your team’s colors in a more – dare we say – fashion-forward way.
After attending the Junk Food Vintage NFL fashion show, which was curated by Kristen Cavallari, (none of the pieces that walked the runway will be available for purchase, but we’re totally inspired by the cute jersey dresses, and leather sleeve crop tops!), and seeing this ad while watching the games last Sunday, we put together a little round up of what we’ll be sporting when we hit the stands to watch our teams kick butt this season.
- Pair a loose tank with a leather jacket and your fave worn-in jeans (cuffed at the bottom!) for a laid-back but edgy look. (Junkfood Touch Down tank, $30)
- Knot up a v-neck tee (that sort of resembles a jersey), and score some major points with your man as you rock his team’s colors at your next tailgate. (Nike Fan tee, $45)
- Show off those abs (you’ve worked hard for ‘em!) with a sporty crop top. For an unexpected look, style it with a flirty skirt like this one. (Victoria’s Secret Pink Cropped Athletic tee, $50)
- Layer a baseball-style sweater under a vest for those chilly SNF games! (Touch by Alyssa Milano Fan for Life sweater, $75)
- Are you a comfy-casual, watch-the-game-from-your-couch sort of girl? Throw on a cozy rugby shirt with your go-to leggings. Just because you’re at home doesn’t mean you have to look like you rolled out of bed! (NFL Shop Shabby Rugby tee, $36)
- For those days when your hair just won’t cooperate, a jazzy baseball cap will have you covered. (Victoria’s Secret Pink Sequin baseball hat, $40)
