One of the best ways to keep your workout on track is to find a fitness friend to share your sweat sessions with. We know sometimes that’s easier said than done, especially if your closest pals are not-so-fitness friendly. If you’re looking for a great way to meet new people and find your sweaty soul mate, Black Girls Run (BGR) may be your golden ticket.

Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks, the founders of Black Girls Run, began their journey because they were feeling out of shape after their college years. Three years ago this April they decided they wanted to share their journey, and Black Girls Run has been on the move ever since.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 80 percent of African-American women are overweight. BGR wants to change that, so their mission is to share inspiration and band together to get African American women more involved with health and fitness. But don’t worry, they’re open to any woman joining, Carey says. “The only ones we’re excluding are the boys; they’re going to have to find their own club.” Sorry, guys!

“We want African American women to embrace fitness,” Hicks says. “BGR is about making the things you love better for you.”

BGR’s success continues as they now organize and run over 60 running clubs across the country. The groups cover ground from New York all the way to Wisconsin, down to Florida, and most of the major cities in between.  If live on the East Coast or in the Midwest, head to their site to find a club near you.

Now tell us: Are you in a run club? What do you love most about them?
