Spring is nearly as famous for mini-makeovers as New Year’s is for resolutions. It’s time to shed the winter weight, reset goals and gear up for summer! But instead of jumping in head first and taking on too much, too fast, try little changes…one step at a time.

“Walking just 30 minutes a day can dramatically affect your physical and emotional health,” says Andrew Weil, M.D., founder of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson.

It’s something we hear often, but walking workouts are often fall by the wayside when the busy get, well, busier.  If you’re looking for a little extra motivation to stick to your plans, check out Walkabout with Dr. Weil – a 28-day quest for good health. Walkabout has 50 ambassadors leading the way, each one with a different style for you to choose from, no matter what your fitness level.

You can follow whichever ambassador you want via social media (isn’t it a beautiful thing?) Links can be found at Healthy Footnotes, Dr. Weil’s blog. Once you find someone to suit your style, keep your friends (and Dr. Weil!) updated on Facebook for a double dose of accountability. And there’s no better day to join the quest than today—it’s National Walking Day!

But there needs to be a little something-something at the end to make the challenge even sweeter, right? Don’t worry, you’re covered. Participants who post regularly will be entered into a random incentive drawing, with chances to win prizes like Walkabout T-shirts, hats or a pair of Dr. Weil’s new Rhythm Walking Shoe to complete their walking wardrobe.  If you really dig the program, the opportunity to become a walking ambassador in 2013 may be presented before you know it.

Are you ready to get started? Head to Dr. Weil’s Integrative Footwear Facebook page for more information and get moving!
