There’s nothing more beautiful than a gorgeous smile. So to get mine to that level, I endured dozens of whitening treatments, floss nightly and had braces—not once, but twice! (You can read more about that here) Kind of crazy, I know, but since I went through all of that, I know how important it is to properly maintain my teeth with good brushing habits, even more flossing and most importantly—wearing my retainers (possibly the least sexiest thing on the planet, I know). But after my second round of braces, I swore to myself I would never let my teeth shift again, so I wear them every night like a good patient. Because of this, my orthodontist (shout out to Dr. Schulhof!) discovered I was grinding my teeth like a maniac at night. I actually ground holes in my retainers! (Maybe from all the stress of trying to have perfect teeth? Who knows?) So now I wear an additional grind guard as well. I basically look like a football player before bed and I have no idea why my boyfriend still thinks I’m cute. But I digress—the whole point of this is to say that I realized how insanely hard it is to clean a dental device. Each morning, I’d pop my retainers and guard out, and if you know anything about morning breath, then you can imagine what they smell like. I asked my orthodontist how to clean them and he suggested brushing with my toothbrush like you do your teeth. That seemed annoying so I suggested soaking them in mouthwash, but he informed me that doing so would actually dye my retainers, which are clear, so that was out of the question. So I diligently brushed my retainers each morning after my own teeth, but it takes up a lot of extra time. So, based on what you now know about my weird obsession with teeth, I’m sure you can imagine how ecstatic I was when Fresh Guard by Efferdent ($6, drugstores) came across my desk. Like, I was literally squealing. It’s like the Efferdent you always knew of for dentures but made specifically for dental devices like Invisalign, grind guards, retainers or even mouth guards for sports. They come in small Crystal-Light-like packets. You just fill a glass with warm water, pour in the packet and let them sit for five minutes. It contains a special formula that prevents the buildup of icky mouth film, reduces yellowing, helps remove stains and kills 99.9 percent of odor-causing bacteria—aka, my dream come true. As they soak, I brush my teeth, wash my face, put in my contacts and they’re clean! The water goes from blue and bubbly to clear so you know it’s time to take them out. Plus they’re also available in a wipe form, which is super-convenient for traveling or after meals when you’re on the go. I stash these in my purse and suitcase. And the wipes leave behind a fresh mint flavor so, to sum it up—this is one “find” that has put one big smile on my face!

If you don’t know Stacy Keibler from her pro wrestling days or currently, an actress/model, maybe this will ring a bell: she’s the statuesque beauty who owns the red carpet and former girlfriend of George Clooney. The woman knows a thing or two about staying fit and looking hot. She recently partnered with Colgate Total to launch their new mouthwash, Colgate Total Advanced Pro-Shield, at “A Wish for a Swish” in Times Square, New York. We caught up with her to find out what the event was all about, then got to pick her brain on her best workout and beauty tips.
Tell us about “A Wish for a Swish” and why you got involved.
“I partnered up with Colgate Total to launch their new mouthwash and we encouraged people to come out to Times Square to help us break the Guinness Book of World Records for the most people that were simultaneously swishing mouthwash. Colgate has already kicked it off by donating $50,000 dollars to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but for every person that attended they donated an additional dollar. And for every person that posted a smile picture on their Facebook page, they also donated a dollar, so it’s all for a good cause. I’ve worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation for years, so it’s a charity that’s definitely close to my heart. This was such a fun way to raise money for them!”
As a retired professional wrestler, what are some of your best tips for getting and staying fit?
“I think that it’s really important to get your heart rate up everyday. It doesn’t matter if it’s just walking, or doing some jumping jacks as long as you get your blood flowing and sweat a little bit. One of the other things I’ve learned is that it’s really important to have proper form when you’re working out even if that means using weights that might be lower in weight then you think you can actually do; it’s more important to have correct form so that you’re not injuring yourself. And I’m a big, big believer in ‘you are what you eat,’ so I think that above all, it’s really key to become conscious of exactly what you’re putting into your body.”
Acting and modeling keeps you super-busy, how do you manage to fit in your workouts with your schedule?
“I take exercise DVDs with me when I’m traveling. I have all different kinds so I can pop them into my computer in a hotel room, anywhere. And for me, if I can’t find the time to workout, it’s all about what I’m eating and putting into my body. Over the years I’ve sort of experimented with different things and I know what works for my body. Everybody’s different and so different things affect people differently, but I know what works for me.”
Any favorite meals-on-the-go?
“I actually travel with protein and with a green powder. I have my shaker with me so at anytime, no matter where I am, I can basically have a healthy meal.”
What are some beauty tricks you’ve learned for looking fabulous in front of the camera?
“I think the most important thing is hydration. Having a few ounces of water every half hour is great for anti-aging. If you always keep yourself hydrated it makes your skin look great.”
What beauty essentials are always in your purse?
“Definitely blotting papers! And I always have Lucas’ Papaw Ointment ($15, amazon.com) for my lips. I also have facial sprays that are organic and natural. I love a really hydrating mist that I can just spray on my face when I’m on the go because they make me feel so refreshed.”

A not so fun fact: there are over 700 different species of bacteria that can grow in our mouths (ew, we know). Reading that number is alarming enough but the worst part is that brushing alone can’t kill them all so using a mouth rinse with antibacterial ingredients is key. One of my favorites: Colgate Total Advanced Pro-Shield Mouthwash ($5, drugstores). It’ll not only wipe out 99% of the bacteria, but it also protects your teeth and mouth from germs for up to twelve hours, even after eating and drinking. I felt like I had an invisible shield on my teeth all day after using it. Also good to note, it didn’t give me that harsh, burny feeling.

Thanks to three of my favorite things — red wine, beer, and coffee — my teeth haven’t been as pearly white as usual. But I don’t have the patience for whitening strips, so I opted for GoSmile…their little ampoules are about the size of a pencil eraser and I loved pretending I was “erasing” the stains from my teeth!
Within just a few days (seriously, like, three days) I already felt more prepared to face the photographer at a wedding I was attending. Even better: GoSmile has toothpaste to keep my teeth white and “touch-up” ampoules that I can use for immediately after I indulge in a glass of Malbec.
Cheers to a brighter, whiter holiday season!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve secretly obsessed over my teeth. I had braces when I was younger and as a result, my smile looked beautiful for a few years. But then I had my wisdom teeth removed and kept forgetting to wear my retainers (is there anything less sexy than a retainer?) and the next thing I knew, I was spending an unacceptable amount of time stressing over my crowded teeth. Once I started expressing my concern to friends and colleagues, I found out that I wasn’t the only one unhappy with my smile.
I researched options but knew that a second round of traditional braces was not right for me. Now that I was older with a career and an active social life, I felt embarrassed by the prospect of having braces again. But then I discovered Incognito Hidden Braces. I met with Dr. Schulhof of The Schulhof Center for Cosmetic Orthodontics and he explained to me how Incognito braces are just like the traditional version, but they are placed behind your teeth, making them invisible to others. Unlike other options out there designed to “secretly” fix your smile, every bracket and wire of Incognito is 100 percent customized to your teeth for accuracy, which can lead to fewer appointments and increased comfort. That means less time spent with the braces on (and at your orthodontist’s office) and more time getting on with your life.
Another bonus of Incognito is that they are actually safer to the health of your mouth for anyone with an active lifestyle. Since the brackets are safely hidden on the inside of your teeth, if you sustain an injury to the mouth (like a misdirected punch in kickboxing class or falling off your bike), you’ll avoid a painful busted lip. Many athletes have opted for this treatment as opposed to others since they can accomplish desired results faster and safer. Plus, Dr. Schulhof pointed out that for people who exercise often, many don’t hydrate enough and end up with dry mouth. Dry mouth and brackets that rub up against the inside of your cheeks and mouth don’t go well together and can even ruin a good workout due to discomfort.
If you don’t want to commit to a full set of braces or if you’re looking to straighten out just the front, most-visible portion of your smile, you can opt for Incognito Lite. This version works the same way as the full set, but they are applied to just the front six or eight teeth, which are seen the most when you talk or smile. The process is a lot quicker than that of regular braces and within a few months, you could be flaunting a gorgeous smile.
If you are eligible to be treated with regular braces, then you can be treated with Incognito. If you are in the greater New York City area, head to The Schulhof Center for Cosmetic Orthodontics to learn more or make an appointment with Dr. Schulhof. If not, visit hiddenbraces.com to find an Incognito-certified Orthodontist near you.

Staying fresh and put together during a marathon, time-crunched day can be a challenge—but not to worry, FITNESS is here to help! Here are a few of my favorite ways to look and feel great on the go, no matter what my busy schedule has in store:
- Hydrate your face. Rehydrate your skin in a dry, stuffy office or classroom with a mist of purified water. We like Evian Mineral Water Spray; it releases a light, invigorating mist that won’t disturb your makeup. Or fill a spray bottle with water and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for an even more moisturizing, therapeutic treat.
- Beat the tangles. All that running around can leave your hair a tangled mess. Carry a compact brush with mirror that folds to fit in your bag- we love Sephora Collection Printed Pop-Up Brush, decked in a supercute bee pattern. Just running the brush through locks a couple times can bring them back to life; to add volume, brush the roots up and back.
- Freshen up. It seems simple, but one of my favorite ways to feel refreshed is to brush my teeth—something about the clean feeling gives me an ultimate boost. I keep a travel toothbrush and toothpaste in my purse for a mid-day touch up. On days when I’m really crunched for time, I pull out a Colgate Wisp, a miniature toothbrush with built-in paste.

While my morning (afternoon and evening) cup o’ joe may leave me feeling perked up and ready to take on the world, it can also leave me with a dull, stained smile. I’m not a big fan of the teeth whitening kits you see in stores, and find they make my teeth feel weak and irritated. Luckily, there are a few at-home tricks that seem to solve my dental disaster:
1) Olive Oil. After brushing, dab extra virgin olive oil onto a soft cloth and gently rub on teeth. While it’s not known why olive oil is an effective teeth whitener, your brighter smile will speak for itself!
2) Hydrogen Peroxide. When it comes to tooth health, hydrogen peroxide is a super power. It not only whitens teeth, but also strengthens enamel, heals canker sores and fights bacteria. To use it as a whitening agent, swish a cap-full around in your mouth for 30 seconds to one minute, and then brush in an upward and downward motion.
3) Baking Soda. Baking soda is a major ingredient found in toothpastes to help deliver a whiter, brighter smile. After brushing, dip your wet toothbrush directly into some baking soda and brush in a circular motion. The surface stains will be lifted immediately!
*Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide used together can also act as a superior whitening remedy. Combine the two until a thick paste forms, and use as toothpaste.
