Staffer Beauty Snoop: Editorial Intern Lisa Turner

Written on June 21, 2012 at 9:25 am , by

A fresh crop of summer interns are inhabiting the FITNESS office, so we asked Editorial Intern Lisa Turner to give us a peek at her beauty routine and spill the secrets to her bright-eyed look.

Describe your style in three words or less. Polished, low-key, simple.
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Vaseline! I would die without it. I use it all day as lip balm, and then at night to take off my eye makeup after I wash my face. I also love  MAC Cosmetics Studio Finish Concealer for under my eyes. I’ve had it for years and am just running out now. Lastly, bobby pins. You can never have enough! Somehow I manage to lose them really easily.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? After washing with a salicylic acid cleanser, I spot treat any breakouts that have appeared overnight. Next, I smooth on an oil-free foundation, put concealer under my eyes and dot Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage on any imperfections. I set it all with a loose powder, then add a peachy powder blush on top. If I’m going to work, I’ll add a little eye shadow and mascara. I usually just stick a lipstick in my purse to apply after my morning coffee. If I’m going out, I’ll line my lids with a liquid or cream formula in black. I don’t put eyeliner on the bottom rim because I feel like it makes my eyes look small and tired.
At night? Cleanse and spot-treat. I’ve recently been using the Avon Anew Resurfacing Expert Serum too, and I spread it on my face, neck and chest.
Post-workout? Shower! Sometimes I’ll wash my face, too, but I try not to wash it too often, so I’ll just give it a quick rinse.
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? Red lipstick makes me feel really sassy.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? Don’t overpluck! Take chances and do your best to hide imperfections, but don’t go overboard. We almost always look better if our natural features are showing through.

Staffer Beauty Snoop: Editorial Assistant Samantha Shelton

Written on June 11, 2012 at 2:00 pm , by

In this week’s Staffer Beauty Snoop, Editorial Assistant Samantha Shelton gives us a peek at her primping routine and reveals her go-to’s for achieving a fresh-faced look.

Describe your style in three words or less: Fresh, natural and laid-back.
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara, Neutrogena Oil-Free Cleansing Wipes in Pink Grapefruit (perfect for pre- and post-gym!) and no-slip hair ties.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? If I’m coming back from an A.M. workout, I hop in the shower and make sure to use Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne Wash (pink grapefruit is my fave). Then I pop in my contacts, brush my teeth using Crest Complete Multi-Benefit Extra White + Scope Outlast toothpaste and try to remember to floss. I go natural with my makeup, but always make sure to have at least a swipe of mascara on. If I’m looking for a more polished look, I dot on concealer, add some foundation, eye liner and shadow and a tinge of blush.
At night? I really make sure to take care of my skin before I head to bed (and I make sure my pillowcases are washed often!). I’ll take off any residue from the day with the Neutrogena wipes, then use a sudsy face wash. I add on a light night cream, brush my teeth and hit the sheets!
Post-workout? I always try to remember to take off my makeup beforehand, and the Neutrogena wipes are perfect for it. A few quick swipes and I’m done – and they smell so good! If I’m not heading home right after my workout for a shower, I’ll wash my face with an acne wash. Add some deodorant and a spritz of body splash and I’m set to go.
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? A manicure and pedicure! My close girlfriends and I make a weekend date out of it – brunch, then mani-pedis to relax, recharge and catch up on each others’ lives. It’s a great way to reconnect and I leave with fun colors and a treatment that makes me feel pampered.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? Embrace your curls! I grew up wasting so much time on my hair, trying to make it stick-straight because I was one of the few girls with curly hair. My mom and hair dresser always hated that! I finally got sick of the extra work and realized my curls look amazing when I treat them right. Now I avoid heat-styling as much as possible, and my boyfriend says my curls are one of his favorite things about me.

Staffer Beauty Snoop: Beauty Intern Cody Marick

Written on June 4, 2012 at 12:52 pm , by

This week, the newest addition to the FITNESS Beauty team, Beauty Intern Cody Marick, doles out her beauty routine deets and favorite product picks.

Describe your style in three words or less: Obsessed with skincare.
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer, EltaMD UV Daily SPF 40 Sheer Moisturizing Facial Sunscreen and Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? I cleanse with Cetaphil, swipe on Renee Rouleau Revitalizing Ginseng Toner with a toning cloth and then apply a moisturizing sunscreen (above). After that I’ll figure out what I’m going to do with my hair—usually just leave it down and natural or twist it into a bun. Then I’ll do my makeup. It’s different everyday, but always mascara. Always. I often reach for Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Washable Mascara.
At night?  Remove my makeup with Yes To Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes, cleanse with Cetaphil and my Clarisonic Mia, and swipe on toner (above). Then I apply a dark spot treatment—Kiehl’s, Clinique and Garnier make effective ones free of hydroquinone. Finally, finish with a moisturizer and eye cream.
Post-workout? Shower!
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? A really great blowout.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? My mom has been dabbing on eye cream (constantly throughout the day) for nearly her entire life—and it shows! She’s completely Botox and filler free. I hope that my adoption of her dedicated eye cream habit will serve me well, too!

Staffer Beauty Snoop: Beauty Intern Wanda Rosa

Written on January 26, 2012 at 10:10 am , by

In this week’s Staffer Beauty Snoop, new spring beauty intern Wanda Rosa spills the must-haves and secrets that keep her looking great through work, classes and workouts:

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Feminine, bold and glamorous!
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without?  My CROC Flat Iron, Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation and lipgloss— I have too many to count!
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? After a quick shower, I moisturize my face and apply primer. Then I put on foundation (mentioned above) which I love because of its flawless coverage, Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Concealer, a bit of eyeliner and lipgloss. I smooth a heat protectant over my hair, straighten it, and then I’m out the door.
At night? I remove my makeup with a towelette, moisturize and I’m ready to sleep!
Post-workout? After I workout I have to shower— no surprise there! I can’t continue my day if I don’t feel fresh.
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? Getting my eyebrows done: I feel like a new person once my arches are trimmed, shapely and beautiful.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? Always remove your makeup before going to bed! Leaving it on can result in clogged pores, breakouts and dryness. It takes just a minute and your skin will thank you!

Staffer Beauty Snoop: Assistant Fashion Editor Melissa Freeswick

Written on August 25, 2011 at 10:25 am , by

For this week’s Staffer Beauty Snoop, we asked Assistant Fashion Editor Melissa Freeswick to share her primping habits and must-haves:

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Quick, simple, natural.
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? 1. BareMinerals Matte SPF 15 Foundation 2.  CoverGirl Natural Luxe Mousse Mascara 3. Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Sculpting Foam
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? I run product through my hair after I shower and let it air-dry while I whip up a quick and healthy breakfast. By the time I’m finished, it’s still damp enough to style with the blow-dryer in less than 10 minutes. A quick swipe of mascara, eyeliner, and blush and I’m on my way!
At night? I try to put in a bit more effort for a night out on the town by adding some waves to my hair with a 1 1/2 inch curling iron, a smoky eye, and a hint of bronzer.
Post-workout? I usually work out at night so afterward I just wash my face and apply moisturizer before bed.
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? By the end of a long day I feel like most of my makeup has worn off, but adding just a touch of Smashbox Blush makes me feel instantly more presentable for happy hour!
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? SPF, SPF, SPF! While it’s really nice soak up the sun at the beach, it’s totally not worth having leathery, wrinkled skin when you’re older! Thanks to Lancôme Flash Bronzer Anti-Age Sunless Face Tanner/SPF 15 Moisturizer I protect my skin AND get a subtle glow.

Staffer Beauty Snoop: Art Intern Heidi Smith

Written on August 18, 2011 at 9:52 am , by

Next up in our Staffer Beauty Snoop series, Art Intern Heidi Smith shares her quick and simple beauty tips, tricks and obsessions:

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Fresh, relaxed and playful.
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Clean & Clear Morning Glow Oil Free SPF 15 Moisturizer, Soft Lips Lip Balm SPF 20 and Maybelline Great Lash Blackest Black Mascara.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? I put my makeup on while my hair is still wet to save time and let my hair air dry as much as possible to save it from the blowdryer. I like an easy, fast routine.
At night? Before bed, I wash off all my makeup and put on moisturizer.
Post-workout? I don’t like when I see girls with caked-on makeup at the gym. I want my skin to breathe, so I keep my face clean while I workout and wear only sunscreen. Afterward, I jump in the shower.
What beauty product instantly makes you feel good when you use it? A light-textured lip gloss like Lancôme Paris Juicy Tubes Lip Gloss. Anytime I’m nervous, like before a date or special event, I put on this gloss and it instantly makes me feel sexy and more confident.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? Don’t wear mascara at the beach or pool: Raccoon eyes are not attractive!

In this installment of our Staffer Beauty Snoop series, FITNESS Digital Director Christie Griffin shares her tried-and-true beauty routine and tricks:

Christie-Griffin-beauty-blog

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Grown-up girly
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Mascara, face serum, and lip gloss.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? Monday-Friday: The works…shower, makeup, hair! I hate not feeling polished and ready for the work day. If it’s the weekend though, then all bets are off.
At night? It varies. At the very least, a quick face rinse. At the most, some serious anti-wrinkle cream, head-to-toe moisturizer, maybe some eye cream, etc. I have no idea what I’m going to do if/when I live with a guy and he finds out my secrets!
Post-workout? I haven’t mastered the post-workout glow like our editorial assistant, Karla Walsh. I usually get so sweaty that I absolutely have to take a quick shower.
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? Nothing beats a good scalp massage at the hair salon. Ahhh.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? Whatever’s wrong, don’t touch it. Have a zit? Hands off! Itchy bug bite? Don’t scratch! Hang nail? No pulling! Keep your grubby little hands off your beauty problem, until you can deal with it the right way.

Staffer Beauty Snoop: Editorial Assistant Karla Walsh

Written on August 4, 2011 at 3:19 pm , by

Next up in our Staffer Beauty Snoop series is Editorial Assistant Karla Walsh. Here, she spills the beauty secrets and favorites that never fail:

karla

Describe your beauty style in three words or less: Simple and sporty.
What are the three beauty products you can’t live without? Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, Scunci No-Slip Evolution Hair Ties and a hair wrap towel (similar to the Turbie Twist)!
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? First, I pop in my contacts, floss and brush teeth (in that order, and Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste is my favorite brand) and wash my face again with Neutrogena. If I’m feeling extra low-maintenance or it’s supposed to be super-hot, I just curl my eyelashes for a bright-eyed look and call that good. For a more polished look, I dot on concealer where needed, add a touch of foundation, eye shadow, eyeliner and blush. And I always spritz on a little Burberry London Eau de Parfum.
At night? After walking around a lot and occasionally doing evening workouts, I often shower at night. I put my hair up in my towel to help it dry, brush my teeth and blow dry the rest before bed after winding down with a book. My stylist always gives me a dry-and-go cut so I can just wake up and hit the streets!
Post-workout? If I have time, I hop in the shower, but I’m also not ashamed to admit that I’ve mastered the shower-free refresh: Towel off, wash face, change clothes, add deodorant and perfume and revel in the post-workout rosy-cheeked glow!
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? A pedicure! I walk all over the city and the sandals I rotate through during summer aren’t the most protective (or supportive, sadly). Not to mention how hard I beat my feet up in the gym! So treating them well always feels amazing.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? Conditioner is a perfect swap for shaving cream. It keeps your skin silky smooth and glides right through the razor blades.
