Professional tennis player and Proactiv spokesperson Caroline Wozniacki manages to have flawless skin despite constant sweat and sun exposure on the court, so we jumped at the chance to get her secrets. Here’s what she said about the products that keep her looking gorgeous, her on-the-road routine, and her proudest career moment.
FITNESS: What’s your haircare, makeup and skincare routine like on a typical day?
Caroline Wozniacki: I really try to keep my daily routine simple and natural. I always like my skin to feel light and clean, so I really try hard to use products that are good for my skin and keep me looking naturally fresh. Since I travel so much, I like to make sure my routine can easily come with me from country to country! I make sure to drink a lot of water, get plenty of sleep and moisturize my skin every day. I find that doing these simple things are easy ways to keep me looking my best.
FITNESS: You’re constantly on the court and exposed to the harsh sun. How do you keep your skin protected?
CW: I wear SPF under my daily moisturizer every day. I’m on the court and outside playing so much that I don’t want to have to worry about my skin getting damaged from the sun. So I just make sure I am properly protected every day. Now it’s such a routine that I pretty much have SPF on all the time!
FITNESS: How did you start working with Proactiv?
CW: I started having bad breakouts when I was about 15 years old. I was playing a lot of tournaments back then, so I was in the public eye a lot and didn’t really feel comfortable with all the cameras around because I wasn’t confident about my skin. I decided to give Proactiv a chance, and my experience was really positive. After about a week, I started to see significant results. I was so happy, and didn’t have to worry about breakouts anymore. Since I love the product so much, I figured a partnership with them was a great idea.
FITNESS: What’s the one beauty product never leaves your bag? Why?
CW: Once again, SPF is really important to me so I always have some in my bag with me. You never know when you’re going to need it! I’m also obsessed with a bunch of the Oriflame lip glosses so I keep those on hand most of the time as well. I hate when my lips are dry or chapped! So I always like to have lip treatments with me, and if they have SPF in them, even better.
FITNESS: What are your gym bag beauty essentials?
CW: Definitely my blister patches! Compeed makes these amazing blister patches that I keep in my gym bag all the time because I wear them almost every day. Blisters are the absolute worst when I’m playing or practicing and can really affect my game so having the patches on me makes a huge difference.
FITNESS: What does your training consist of?
CW: Naturally I spend a lot of time on the court, but I also spend a fair amount of time training off-court. I also like to mix it up and have some fun with boxercise.
FITNESS: What’s your biggest beauty indulgence?
CW: I definitely indulge in my fair share of massages, but most of them are more sports therapy.
FITNESS: What are the beauty products you can’t live without?

FITNESS: Where do you get the confidence and energy to keep working your absolute hardest on the court?
CW: I’ve always been very motivated to do my best when I play. It’s definitely a passion and drive within me that keeps me going and playing my best. I also come from a family of athletes, so they have always been very supportive and motivating which helps me stay focused and try my hardest.
FITNESS: What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishment?
CW: Holding the #1 position for so long is definitely something I am really proud of. I finished at #1 for two years in a row, so that is something I really strive to reach again.

FITNESS: What’s the one beauty product that never leaves your bag?
Rebecca Romijn: I always carry Wella Ocean Spritz to refresh my hair. It mimics sea water and adds great texture. It’s a very good low-maintenance solution for someone who’s on the go.
FITNESS: What are your haircare, makeup and skincare routines like on a typical day?
RR: I cleanse and moisturize my face in the morning and at night, and never forget sunscreen.
FITNESS: What are your secrets for looking great no matter where you are and what you’re doing? Do you have a go-to makeup look or hairstyle?
RR: I don’t wash my hair every day; in fact I always prefer “second day hair”. It’s easy and it does what I want it to do!
FITNESS: What are you gym bag beauty essentials?
RR: I always carry a hair elastic and bobby pins in my gym bag to put my postworkout hair into a bun. A bun is an easy classic. I also put on a great pair of sunglasses and Smashbox O-Gloss for my lips. The pink shade is natural-looking and perfect on everyone. And I love the texture.
FITNESS: What’s your biggest beauty indulgence?
RR: My biggest beauty indulgence are regular facials, and I splurge on Oyxgen Plasma by Knutek. It’s a miracle-worker, and I use it morning and night when I cleanse. Oxygen helps with fine lines and to heal blemishes.
FITNESS: What’s the best tip you’ve picked up from the makeup, hair and skincare experts you’ve worked with?
RR: The best tip I’ve learned from makeup artists is to regularly use the Clarisonic on my face. Even if I think I’ve removed all my makeup, it’s amazing how much cleaner my face becomes after I use my Clarisonic. It’s possibly the best investment I’ve made in my skincare routine since I’ve been an adult.

Describe your style in three words or less: Natural, fun and comfortable!
What are the three products you can’t live without? CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara, Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti-Humidity Hairspray and a moisturizer.
What’s your beauty routine in the morning? I wash my face, then apply a tinted moisturizer and mascara. Next I’ll dry my hair, use my flat iron to style it and I’m good to go!
At night? I wash my face, hair, and use a carrot-infused face lotion to moisturize. Occasionally I’ll use a face mask to exfoliate my skin.
Post-workout? Depending on how much time I have, I either shower or I just give my face a quick rinse and head to the next thing on my to-do list!
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? Getting my hair cut! I always feel brand new and exciting.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve received (or thought of yourself)? My hairstylist taught me to spray my brush with hairspray and then run it through my strands to keep frizz and flyaways at bay.

Post-workout? I usually let my hair air dry after working in a bit of anti-frizz cream.
What beauty product or treatment instantly makes you feel good? Washing up before bed. I am known to take a really long time. I love to feel really clean before bed, so I wash my face for like 20 minutes!
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever received (or thought of yourself)? I have seriously sensitive skin, and I used to try lots of new stuff, just for fun. I would always be allergic to it, however, which is no fun! Now I know just to use what works.

Regular jog sessions in the scorching summer heat (the temp reached 100 in NYC last week!) can be tough on our skin, so Aquaphor and Chris Carmichael, CEO and President of Carmichael Training Systems, shared some simple tips to prevent chapped lips, chafed skin, and blistered feet during your weekly training:
Feet first. To avoid injuries, replace those worn-out running shoes every four months or 400 miles. Slather on a salve like Aquaphor® Healing Ointment before you run and after showers to keep your feet free of blisters and cracks.
Stay hydrated. Keeping your body water content up means less stress and increased performance. But how to drink on the run? Practice grabbing cups of water from tables so you’ll be ready to hydrate on the big day. Just pinch the top of your cup to avoid spills as you go.
Prevent chaffing. Keep your thighs, underarms, and more from being rubbed raw with a moisturizing ointment. Spread it on any areas that chafe before you hit the pavement, including under bra straps and waistbands.
Stretch out. Flexible muscles in your legs, hips and torso are a successful runner’s secret weapon. Give them a good stretch both before and after you hit the pavement.
