Tried-It Tuesday: Marc Jacobs Splash Cocktail in Cranberry

Marc-Jacobs-Splash-2011-Promo-Allura

It typically isn’t appropriate to start your day off with a cocktail, but Marc Jacobs is about to change that with his fresh new spring fragrance line. The limited edition Marc Jacobs Splash Cocktail 2011 Collection includes three fruity new flavors, but our favorite is the Cranberry concoction. The Cranberry cocktail is an ideal light and invigorating scent for spring. The key notes in our new favorite fragrance are a juicy mix of pink grapefruit, cranberry pulp, tangerine, honeysuckle, and exotic woods. I know you might be skeptical about smelling like a cranberry, but believe me—this chubby little bottle will win you over with just one spritz!

Prettifying Picks to Fall in Love With

706-Eye_makeup_tips_and_Valentines_day_makeup

Many women would be offended if their beau gave them makeup for Valentine’s Day. I can just hear the mental dialogue: “Does he think I’m ugly?”, “Is he not attracted to me?”, “Have I let myself go?” However, I would personally love a little V-Day pick me up for my makeup bag.  After all, isn’t Valentine’s the one day of the year a girl gets to be pampered and treated like a goddess? Here are the beauty buys that are making my heart go pitter-patter this Valentine’s season:

MAC Cosmetics consistently manages to put out stunning holiday collections—and their Tough Love line for Valentine’s Day is no exception.  We’ve got it bad for the Lipstick in Girl About Town, above.

What’s Valentine’s Day with out a little seduction? Every girl needs a special scent to get the night going. On my wish list is rose-tinged Chloe Eau de Parfum Spray.

Nobody wants to be dry and scaly on V-Day. Kiss Me with Kiehl’s is my pick to ensure silky skin for the big night! The set includes the super-delicious, sweet-scented Soy Milk & Honey Body Polish.

In lieu of the candy hearts and chocolate covered what-have-you, I’m asking for a different kind of sugar this year. Butter London has a bold nail color foursome called I Want Candy that will make your heart skip a beat.

Faith Hill Talks Fitness

We recently chatted with country singer Faith Hill about her newest fragrance, Faith Hill True, her favorite beauty products and tricks for on-the-go, and her stay-in-shape secrets. The scoop:

FITNESS: How does your new fragrance, True, differ from your first fragrance?
FAITH HILL: My first fragrance had several notes in it that reminded me of growing up in Mississippi, such as magnolia.  I wanted to keep this one fresh and clean and current…I really liked the yuzu, lily and gardenia notes.”

FITNESS: What kind of woman is True made for?
FAITH HILL: “It’s made for every woman.  Whether you work in your home, outside of your home, in sweats or a suit, everyone can wear it.  I wanted the fragrance to appeal to all women.”

FITNESS: How and when do you wear fragrance?  What’s the best way to wear it?
FAITH HILL: “I wear fragrances every day. It’s like a part of my outfit.  I wear it with sweats, casual or dressed to go out.  It completes my outfit.”

FITNESS: How do you take care of your skin and hair on-the-go?
FAITH HILL: I try to keep my skin clean and moisturized.  On my hair, I use a leave-in conditioner most of the time when I’m not working.  I also drink lots of water.”

FITNESS: How do you keep yourself in shape with your busy lifestyle and while you’re on the road?
FAITH HILL: I have to schedule workout time or I simply will find an excuse to not workout.  I’m doing the Tracy Anderson method right now and I love it.  I don’t get bored as easily because of all the movement involved in her program.”

FITNESS: What are your favorite beauty products for after your workout and for carrying with you when you’re on-the-go?
FAITH HILL: “I always clean my face after my workout.  I use Obagi cleanser and sunscreen.  When I travel, I do the same treatment, just with more moisturizer and I drink loads of water.”

FITNESS: What workouts do you do regularly?
FAITH HILL: “I used to run, however, now I enjoy a brisk walk for 2-3 miles, in addition to the Tracy Anderson method.”

Faith shares her workout playlist in the Fit Life section of our January issue, out next week!

Find A New Favorite Fragrance

In our November/December issue (on stands now!), I wrote a feature about how your workout of choice can lead you to a perfect-for-you perfume pick. Researchers say that the part of the brain that’s linked to your sense of smell has a direct connection to your personality and exercise preference.

In the issue, we have fragrance finds for active readers who love to hike, run, spin and practice yoga, but we had to drop one exercise category from the layout: dancing. Read on to sniff out a new signature scent for the season!

Your Workout: Dancing
Your Fit Fragrance: Gourmand

If you love ballet, jazz, hip-hop, or even Zumba classes, chances are you enjoy being in tune with your body. And scrumptious food-inspired fragrances take the cake in terms of increasing your self-esteem. “Because they’re often associated with positive, nostalgic feelings, research suggests that these sweet scents can raise your endorphin levels, making you feel better about yourself,” explains Alan Hirsch, M.D., of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago. Try these yummy, but still subtle, scents:

  • Victoria’s Secret Dream Angels Heavenly Stardust ($49, Victoria’s Secret stores) has comforting traces of caramel and praline.
  • The star note in Pure DKNY ($80, dkny.com) is vanilla, which smells fresh, thanks to hints of creamy sandalwood.
  • Mary Kay Thinking of You ($30, marykay.com) sweetens skin with delish dashes of tonka bean, vanilla, and sugar.

Jordin Sparks Talks Scent

At the launch of her first fragrance, Because of You, Grammy-nominated American Idol alum (and current Broadway star) Jordin Sparks chatted about beauty and making scents. Take a peak:

The fruity clementine and currant-laced Because of You Eau de Parfum Spray is also a bargain: Just $9.50 through the month of October and ($14.95 after) via the link above. Enjoy!

What’s Your Perfume Personality?

Hey Guys: We’re working on an upcoming fragrance story, and we would love to know your thoughts about perfumes. Please take this quiz below and look for your results in our Nov/Dec 2010 issue. Thanks! -Eleanor
