Independence day is a once-a-year opportunity to celebrate our freedom and enjoy time spent with family and friends. But we would never have that freedom if it weren’t for the brave men and women who serve in our military. When this holiday rolls around, I’m always looking for ways to sport some red, white and blue and I was excited when the Band-Aid Our Veteran Heroes Adhesive Bandages ($3, drugstore.com) came across my desk. These fun band-aids feature patriotic stars and stripes and military-inspired designs like camo (so fun for kids!). But the best part is: Band-Aid is partnering with Team Red, White & Blue, an organization that helps enrich the lives of American’s veterans by connecting them to their communities through physical and social activities and will donate 5% of the purchase price to a charity supporting vets. When you pick up a box of these, you can feel good knowing you’re contributing to a great cause. So for any scratch, scrape or cut that happens over this holiday weekend, slap on one of these to show your support and have a safe July 4th!

While you’re on the hunt for the perfect new spring lip shade, help bring beauty back into the lives of women who are in the hospital with Burt’s Bees’ ‘Hive with Heart’ campaign. From now until June 30th, for every two lip products purchased, Burt’s Bees will donate two of the same products to the Lipstick Angels, a nonprofit that provides patients and seniors with makeovers to remind them they are beautiful no matter what they’re going through. Founded in 2012 by celebrity makeup artist Renata Helfman, the Angels use all natural and healthy products intended to improve the physical and emotional well being of the people who use them. The campaign teamed up with Anna Kendrick for its launch, providing a day of makeovers for City of Hope patients to show firsthand how a little bit of makeup can boost morale and directly relate to the recovery process. You can learn more about the campaign, buy products and even dedicate your purchase to a loved one on the Burt’s Bees website by clicking here.

March marks National Women’s History month, the perfect time to celebrate the strides we’ve made and get motivated to help women around the globe. Beauty companies are pitching in with products that empower women. Here, a few of our faves.
Bobbi Brown Pretty Powerful Mascara to benefit The Pretty Powerful Campaign for Women & Girls
Launched last year, the Pretty Powerful Campaign is a global initiative that celebrates the evolution of the brand’s message from confidence through makeup and empowering women and girls through education. It aims to help women by supporting educational or job skills’ training programs that provide them with the knowledge, skills and experience they need to overcome the inequities and disadvantages that far too many of them face every day. The Pretty Powerful Mascara ($25, bobbibroncosmetics.com) is an all-in-one formula that lengthens, thickens and defines without clumps or smearing throughout the day. It is available now and all proceeds in the U.S. benefit the Girl Rising Fund, a 501c3 fund operated by Tides Foundation, which drives resources to effective girl-empowerment programs in the developing world. If you’d like to find out more, check out the trailer to the inspiring documentary Girl Rising below:
Laura Mercier Bonne Mine Healthy Glow For Face & Cheeks Crème Colour Palette to benefit the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund
Claudia Poccia, President and CEO of Gurwitch Products, the manufacturer and distributor of Laura Mercier cosmetics, and Laura Mercier, founder of the Laura Mercier cosmetics brand established the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund in September 2012. Both Poccia and Mercier have loved ones who were affected by ovarian cancer, which is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among American women according to the American Cancer Society. The mission is to raise awareness, fund research and educational efforts that will help diagnose, treat and support women with ovarian cancer to prevent more women from dying from the disease. The Bonne Mine Palette ($48, lauramercier.com) is a must-have for any makeup bag. Featuring a cream bronzer, two cream blushes and two highlighters, it’s the perfect product to create that “no makeup” glow that looks soft and natural. 100% of the profits from sales are donated to the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund.
Yes To Carrots Yes to Movement Project to benefit You!
The Yes to Carrots brand is making March all about you! In honor of National Women’s History month, they’ve launched the Yes to Movement, a year-long project aimed at encouraging everyone to spread the power of positivity by saying “yes” to something for yourself, your loved ones or for your community. Their goal is to get fans to share one million Yes Moments with the hashtags #YESTOMOVEMENT and #YESWOMEN. Simply snap a selfie on Twitter or Instagram to inspire, empower and get each other to say “yes” more by saying “yes” to yourself first. They’ll choose one lucky lady and help her overcome her fear of saying “yes.” She’ll receive the resources (and all our support) to empower her to face it head on.
Let’s hear it for the girls!

You’ve heard the saying: “It’s better to give than to receive” but what if you were able to do both? Jane Cosmetics is making that possible this holiday season with their Gift of Confidence & Care Campaign. Now until December 27th, the company will donate one beauty product for each item sold on janecosemetics.com and at participating Kohl’s, Ulta Beauty, Bealls, Palais Royal and Peebles’ stores in California, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey and Texas to more than 25 women’s shelters and charitable organizations in those states (as if we needed another reason to buy makeup!). Follow the #JaneGivesBack campaign on social media to learn more and go to janecosmetics.com to find a participating retailer near you.

These days, everyone unfortunately has a connection with cancer (whether it be personal, or through a friend, coworker or family member battling the disease). Though cancer takes a huge physical toll, it can also majorly impact a fighter’s inner confidence. That’s where Look Good Feel Better comes in. LGFB is a program that helps cancer treatment patients regain confidence by helping them deal with the appearance-related side effects of treatment. The charity hosts workshops in all 50 states, which are staffed by local expert volunteers who offer lessons, including how to apply makeup and accessories to address the changes in skin and hair loss that often accompany cancer treatment. A cool part to note: The workshops are free and big-name beauty brands donate the supplies for each participant to keep.
You can also checkout LGFB’s recently launched app—Beauty Mobile App—where users can upload their photo and try on different looks. The tool can be utilized to keep patients’ spirits up and their minds busy while receiving treatment.
Look Good Feel Better is dedicated to changing the way people with cancer approach their disease, reminding them that they are beautiful inside and out. For more information, visit their webpage, Facebook page, or follow them on Twitter.

Makeup artist Bobbi Brown (one of my inspirations!) recently teamed up with KIND Healthy Snacks to create the company’s first Snack & Give Back campaign to help you look and feel beautiful from the inside out this holiday season. How it works: you can purchase Bobbi Brown’s limited edition Eat Pretty Powerful Cube featuring her four favorite KIND bars: Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt, Cashew & Ginger Spice, Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan and Madagascar Vanilla Almond (they make the perfect snacks and gifts!). A portion of the cube’s proceeds goes toward the Broome Street Academy—a public charter high school that prepares New York City’s most vulnerable young people to graduate with Regents diplomas—a school close to Brown’s heart and one she chose for this program. KIND will also make a $10,000 donation to the academy to help fund a new KIND Kitchen.
KIND is also offering snack cubes curated by Arianna Huffington from the Huffington Post to support the Committee to Protect Journalists and Grace Potter from Grace Potter and the Nocturnals to support the Alzheimer’s Association. The limited edition cubes are available for $42.95 on www.kindsnacks.com.

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness month, which means companies are churning out beauty products that not only help you look good but do good, too. We’ve spent the past few weeks sifting through them. Here are our faves:
Ahava Hope Blossoms Mineral Bath Salts ($22 for 32oz., ahavaus.com). Sprinkle a capful of these white floral-scented salts into a warm bath to soothe achy muscles after a tough workout. Even better than the spa-like effect: Ahava will make a 10% donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation in support of their mission to help fund research and promote education and early detection.
Nails Inc. Nail Lacquer in Pinkie Pink ($9.50, sephora.com). This is the perfect way to show your support—right down to your fingertips. Paint just one nail (like your pinky) with this metallic pink polish to add extra sparkle to your manicure. $1 from every sale will be donated to Breast Cancer Campaign.
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick ($3, drugstores). Meet a great multi-tasker to toss in your gym bag. Use it as lip balm, body balm or rub a little between your fingertips to tame pesky flyaways. Palmer’s will donate 15% of sales of specially-marked Palmer’s products (with a minimum donation of $100,000) to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
Stila Positively Pink Set ($18, stilacosmetics.com). The adorable pink ribbon blush adds just the right amount of pink to your cheeks to fake a post-workout flush. Top off your look with a swipe of shimmery lip glaze and you’re good to go. $1 from every purchase will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.
Clinique Great Skin, Great Cause Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion ($36, clinique.com). This cult classic facial moisturizer is not only super light and hydrating, but it comes with an adorable charm key ring. $10 from every sale of this limited-edition product will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® while supplies last.

A huge, heartfelt congratulations to our friends at NARS Cosmetics for recently completing the Lavaman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii, raising more than $111,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in support of a fellow employee who is a cancer survivor. “We challenged ourselves mentally and physically like never before,” says Kelly Fobar, global communications manager for NARS in New York City. “It was incredible to see how much encouragement, friendship and dedication this team shared in the three short months we trained together.” We at FITNESS are so proud of your accomplishments— living proof that makeup, fitness and making a difference aren’t mutually exclusive.

Cult favorite cure-all Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil is getting the model treatment this month: Catwalk stunners Angela Lindvall and Petra Nemcova, along with Josie herself, have decked the bottles in limited-edition designs that reflect the charity closest to their hearts. Ten percent of the price of each bottle sold will be donated to their respective causes— Healthy Child Healthy World for Angela, Petra’s own Happy Hearts Fund and Women for Women International for Josie. Virtually scent-free, the nongreasy, fast-absorbing argan oil inside is a superb nourisher for face, body and hair. Try rubbing it into cuticles and elbows, onto heels before slipping on socks, adding a few droppers to your bath for a moisture boost, and smoothing over fried strands for an instant hydrating fix.

Do good while you wash up with soaps from Hand in Hand Sustainable Suds and SoapBox Soaps. Similar to the Toms Shoes “One for One” credo, for every soap purchased from these brands, one is donated to a child in a developing country to prevent the spread of water-related illnesses, which kill more than five million people per year worldwide. And you’re not sacrificing quality for conscience: The hydrating glycerin and shea butter-based bars come in sophisticated, fresh scents like orange blossom, lavender and lemongrass.
