April 1st marks the start of Earth month and each year when I turn the page of my calendar, it’s a subtle reminder to be a little friendlier to our planet and the world around us. For me, there’s no easier way to do that than with a sweet-smelling candle (I’m somewhat of a hoarder!) so when I heard about the Aveda Light The Way Candle ($12, aveda.com) it was a no brainer. Not only is it made with 100% reclaimed glass but the carton (which is 70% PCR paperboard) is decorated with artwork by students of the Association School in Ampasimanjeva, Madagascar, a village that has received two Global Greengrants Fund grants for water projects. The children, who previously drank from a dirty, crocodile-infested river, created drawings to show how their lives changed after the community built a safe water source close to home. Every time I light the candle, the Madagascar-inspired blend of vanilla, cinnamon, and ylang-ylang reminds me that I (along with Aveda) am helping those little kids and their community. Aveda will donate 100% of the purchase price to the Global Greengrants Fund, a non-profit organization that channels high-impact grants to grassroots groups working to solve pressing environmental problems. You can get yours starting March 24th or find out more information on the clean-water projects on aveda.com.
Post-workout, I treat myself to a warm soak to ease my sore muscles. While testing bath-friendly beauty products (tough job, right?), I stumbled across these three standouts, which have helped transform my bathroom into a spa-like sanctuary. I even use them as an incentive while working out (just one more mile until some TLC)!
Set the mood:
Bath & Body Works White Barn 3-Wick Candle in Honeysuckle ($20, bathandbodyworks.com)
Dim your lights (it’s you time!) and activate this candle. In a few minutes, the subtle blend of honeysuckle and creamy vanilla will fill the air. The best part: the sweet scent lingers for hours after the flame goes out.
Soak it up:
Lush Peaceful Lavender Bathing Under the Stars Bath Bomb in Twilight ($6, lushusa.com)
A fun alternative to bubble bath, this fizzy bath bomb will bob around the tub and dissolve, turning the water into frothy pink and purple swirls. Lavender essential oil will help you unwind—perfect for taking the edge off before bedtime.
Soften your skin:
Victoria’s Secret Seriously Soft Body Cream in Jasmine & Water Lily ($12, Victoriassecret.com)
Once you’re out of the tub, lightly pat your skin with a towel. While it’s still damp, slather on this rich cream. Hydrating coconut and sunflower oils will leave your skin feeling silky, while the tropical scent will put you in a vacation-mode mindset.

When we first encountered the Ajne Vintage Glass Candle, it was love at first sight. Its gorgeous cracked silver and gold-textured finish adds the perfect antique-y glamorous accent to any room and gleams when illuminated. And the fresh-cut gardenia perfume infused into the soy wax only enhances the old-word beauty of the candle. When ours burned out after almost 20 hours of use, we prolonged its life by putting a regular votive inside. The candles, which come in three sizes, make a unique, personal housewarming, birthday or wedding party present—or gift to yourself.
Tell us: What’s your favorite candle?
This week’s pick falls into the do good, feel good category: 100 percent of the purchase price of Aveda’s Limited Edition Light the Way Candle ($12) goes to the Global Greengrants Fund, which works to supply clean water to people around the world. The Light the Way program has raised a whopping $12 million over the past four years—their goal is to contribute $4 million more this year. And the candle itself isn’t too shabby: The French lavender and sage organically-scented soy wax is housed in a glass made from a reclaimed beverage bottle. Helping someone by buying something beautiful? Now that’s a beautiful thing.
Last weekend, we gleefully pulled out all of our favorite holiday decor. A new addition this year? Slatkin & Co. Fresh Balsam Ceramic Candle, an adorable silver pinecone that does double duty as decor and home fragrance. The jar is gorgeous enough to stand alone as a chic, wintery accent—burning the pine and cedar-scented wax inside is just an added bonus. We’ll keep it to store jewelry or candy once it’s empty. What’s your favorite seasonal fragrance?
