Between the grueling flight schedule and essentially living out of a suitcase, it’s fair to say that flight attendants have one tough gig. But Cabin Crew Member for Emirates Airline, Marta Bil, makes traveling look easy (and looks good while doing it). She shares her tips on staying fresh during flights so you can have a “ready-for-vacay” glow straight out of the gate.
All of the Cabin Crew members wear red lipstick. Do you have a favorite brand?
“I have a couple of favorites. Inglot Cosmetics is my personal favorite brand. But we are all wearing different brands. You must use whatever suits your skin and the type of beauty that you are because as you know, we represent over 160 nationalities in the world, so you have to find one that suits your personality or look.”
What other makeup items are you allowed to wear?
“We are only allowed to use certain shades. It can be gold, brown or black. Natural shades. You must always use mascara—my favorites are Rimmel and Bourjois and either eye shadows or eyeliner or both so that it’s visible. Other than that, we have to take care of our uniform so it always looks spotless. Also, the nails are very important so we need to always make sure they’re nicely done. We can use a red color or a natural color.”
What are your must-haves for freshening up on the plane?
“There are a couple of things that I always carry with me and use anytime during the flight. The air on flights is very dry, so I use a cream under my eyes just to make sure that the skin looks good and doesn’t get dehydrated. Another thing that I bring is a facial spray like Evian Mineral Water Spray ($12, sephora.com) just to refresh my makeup. Also, it’s always good to bring a lip balm and hand cream—that’s something I never leave my house without. And of course a toothbrush and toothpaste.”
What’s your strategy for packing an organized carry-on?
“I learned the easiest way is to put the heavy stuff in first, then the pants all together on one side, shirts on the other and shoes in between with all the cosmetics bags.”
What’s the best beauty tip you picked up from another country?
“I use this product from South Africa, its called a Bio Oil ($17, ulta.com), but you can buy this all over the world but it’s not that well-known in the United States. We use it from time to time for our faces because it’s an oil and after a 14-hour flight your face gets really dry. I use it in the morning and the evening.”
Any other tips for staying hydrated on a long flight?
“The most important thing during the flight is drinking water and having a healthy diet.”

While you’re on the hunt for the perfect new spring lip shade, help bring beauty back into the lives of women who are in the hospital with Burt’s Bees’ ‘Hive with Heart’ campaign. From now until June 30th, for every two lip products purchased, Burt’s Bees will donate two of the same products to the Lipstick Angels, a nonprofit that provides patients and seniors with makeovers to remind them they are beautiful no matter what they’re going through. Founded in 2012 by celebrity makeup artist Renata Helfman, the Angels use all natural and healthy products intended to improve the physical and emotional well being of the people who use them. The campaign teamed up with Anna Kendrick for its launch, providing a day of makeovers for City of Hope patients to show firsthand how a little bit of makeup can boost morale and directly relate to the recovery process. You can learn more about the campaign, buy products and even dedicate your purchase to a loved one on the Burt’s Bees website by clicking here.

We got the memo—full brows are in (hello, Cara Delevigne!). There’s just one problem: if you don’t have them, how can you get them? We called on eyebrow extraordinaire and owner of Sania’s Brow Bar in NYC, Sania Vucetaj, to explain the ins and outs of filling in your brows, so they don’t end up looking like crazy caterpillars.
What’s the biggest issue women have with eyebrow shaping?
“The shape needs to be as symmetrical and full as possible; full in a flattering way. But many people think you should be adding pencil throughout the whole brow, when in fact, it should just be used to outline the brow. Because you already have hairs in the brows center and sparseness is usually around the brow. The best bet is to outline the shape and then blend it in using a clean spooley (a clean mascara brush). The color will then go through the brow to achieve a natural look.”
What’s your favorite brow powder or pencil?
“I actually have my own brow pencil called the Sania’s Brow Bar Angled Mechanical Brow Pencil ($30, saniasbrowbar.com). [Ed note: this is one of our fave’s too!] The formulation of the pencil gives you the precision of a pencil but also the soft smoothness of a powder to help you achieve the most natural look. The pencil comes in three natural shades: light, medium and dark. The unique angle of the pencil is shaped like a brush so that it mimics the brow for easy application. It also comes with a spooley on the opposite end for blending.“
How do you know what shade is best for you?
“You should stay as true to your natural color as possible. When in doubt, pick a shade a little lighter. If you want to darken your brows, pick a slightly darker shade. If you want to soften brows, pick a slightly lighter color. The beauty of pencils is you can mix and match!“
Walk us through the steps of filling in. Where do you start?
“You would take the wide angle of the pencil and start with filling in just the center of the brows. Then, with the thin edge of the pencil, outline the top of the brow while lifting the arch area. Next, outline with the thin edge underneath the brow, where sparseness usually occurs. Then blend with the brush in upward strokes for beautiful, natural-looking brows!”
Is there anyone who should not fill in their brows?
“If someone has really full, prominent brows, they may not want to. But for the most part, everyone has a bit of sparseness in their brows and can benefit from using a little pencil to perfect them.“

With not one but two polar vortexes under our belts, those of us in the Northeast are cold, cranky and, well, feeling anything but sexy (think chapped lips, cracking hands and flaky legs—gross). We’ve rounded up some of the most moisturizing potions to keep your skin happy and hydrated because, let’s face it, winter has only just begun (wah!).
Face: CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion ($14, walgreen.com)
This dermatologist favorite provides a controlled release of essential ceramides and other skin-soothing ingredients throughout the day so your skin stays supple from the time you eat breakfast until you hit the sack.
Lips: Mustela Hydra Stick ($10, sephora.com)
Protect your pout with this convenient little stick. Made with cold cream, shea butter and beeswax, it infuses moisture into your lips or anywhere your skin needs it (like around your nose or even your cheeks). Tuck it in your pocket for quick touch-ups while you’re shredding the slopes (or after you’ve endured a rough commute).
Hands: Fresh Brown Sugar Hand Cream ($19, sephora.com)
If only mittens could keep your hands both warm and moisturized. Slather on this rich lotion, which contains shea butter and vitamin E to prevent moisture loss. The caramel and brown sugar scent is intoxicating, yet 100 percent guilt-free!
Body: Jergens Crema Deep Conditioning Shea Butter Body Cream ($7, drugstore.com)
Turn your post-shower routine into a little daily indulgence with this tub of luxurious body cream. Rich shea butter quenches scaly skin, and it absorbs quickly so you can slip into your coziest sweater/leggings combo and prepare to bear the elements.
Feet: Soap & Glory Heel Genius Amazing Foot Cream ($16, Sephora stores)
Sleep your way to softer heels with this yummy foot cream. Just massage a generous amount onto clean feet, slip on cotton socks and drift off. Macadamia oil, menthol and orange and lemon fruit acids will work the night shift so that come morning, your soles will be soft and soothed.
Hair: Kérastase Masque Nutri-Thermique ($18, keratase-usa.com)
Often we’re so focused on taking care of our skin in the winter (the flakes!), we neglect our strands. This heat-activated deep-conditioning hair mask nourishes locks from roots to tips and protects your mane from drying-out in the future. Yes, please!
Other Problem Areas: Avéne XeraCalm A.D. Lipid-Replenishing Cream ($32, dermstore.com)
Specially created for eczema-prone skin, this cream will soothe, relieve discomfort and soften tender skin. It’s safe for use on the face and body on infants and adults. Whether you have eczema or not, this cream has your dry spots covered (literally)!

Not only is Ciara working on her sixth album, planning a wedding and performing at the official Grammy’s after-party, she just announced she is pregnant! It’s not hard to see that Ciara is practicing what she preaches as Degree Women’s DO:MORE ambassador. We got to sit down with Ciara to learn more about the DO:MORE campaign and how she juggles it all.
Tell us more about the Degree Women DO:MOREcampaign and why you’re passionate about it?
“I’m so excited about teaming up with Degree Women because the campaign is all about inspiring and encouraging women to work hard and to do more of what they love. I really relate to that because being an entertainer, it’s all about facing challenges and figuring out how to improve and get better and to do more. So I get to share my challenges and share my journey in hope of inspiring other women to know that we’re all the same and you can do more and you should always work hard to achieve your goals. So that’s what I really love about this campaign. In addition to that, this year I’ll be performing at the official Grammy after party. It’s going to be so much fun and there’s really cool videos online [here] where you can see how I prepare for a night like this. You get to hear about the hard work and the journey and why I do more.”
What is your favorite part about the Grammys and does anything change knowing that you have to perform afterwards?
“My favorite part is being able to see the performances. I love stage-show presentation. I always love seeing what my peers are going to do and I love seeing the unexpected. And then of course, yes, after the show is definitely something I’m looking forward to but I’m also going to definitely be taking a nap in-between after I go to the show! So it’s all about balance in that day.”
How are you juggling everything you have going on while also preparing for the Grammys?
“The key word is balance! That’s what it’s all about for me. It’s about really taking everything one day at a time. Still working hard, still doing more, still doing all that good stuff but just balancing everything out and adjusting where I need to. But I still go into it with the same mentality of wanting things to be great. I still go into it with the mentality of wanting to have an energetic show and most importantly wanting to have fun!”
Do you have a pre-Grammy beauty routine to get your skin perfect?
“It depends on the day. Sometimes I go and get a good microderm. I love microderms, I do it once a month. But sometimes when I know events like that are coming up and I have enough time, I’ll go by a dermatologist to get it one time. I make sure it’s close to when I’m doing the event because your skin really does glow and you get off some of that dead skin and the look is very fresh. I’ll do something like that and then if I feel dehydrated, I’ll do a mask that hydrates your face a little bit. But it’s really simple to be honest. It’s not a whole lot that you do. I always believe that less is more so we try not to over apply the makeup but we try to apply enough so it can last throughout the long day of the red carpet and all the moving and everything.”
So with everything else going on, you also have a wedding to think about! Do you know what you want your hair and makeup to look like for the big day?
“I have an idea, I know the feeling I want. I want elegance more than anything and I want classic. I can’t say exactly what the creative ideas are but I know the feeling and that’s definitely elegance and classic.”
Is there a way Future prefers your hair?
“It’s so funny, he likes it all kinds of ways actually! I know he likes when I wear my hair out of my face, he loves that! And he actually loves my hair blonde. Sometimes I talk about going dark and he’s like, ‘yea, but that look right there is hot!’ So I don’t know, I definitely want it to be easy; I don’t want to have to be fussing with my hair.”
Well, it’s obvious that you look great! What do you do to stay active and has it changed at all now that you’re pregnant?
“I train with my trainer, Gunnar [Peterson]. When we train, we do an hour session. We just modified things, you know I can’t do crunches or anything like that, or lay on my stomach anymore, but we still do things that are close to what I would do if I wasn’t pregnant. And it’s all about still keeping that energy up, still keeping the cardio strong and just having balance in your body overall.”
Since you are so busy, is there a beauty product must-have that makes you feel put together on the go?
“I always have a pinky/nude lip liner and I take a peach/nude lipstick to lay it on top of the liner so it gives your lips more dimension and the liner gives you a fuller lip. I always have to have that combination! Something about it lifts your face to me. I also love concealer. You know, sometimes if you don’t want to do a full face you can put a little bit under your eyes and it just makes you look refreshed.”
So, since we’re talking about the Degree DO:MOREcampaign, do you have a favorite formula you like to wear?
“I’ve tried everything in the world and there’s honestly nothing like Degree. I promise you, if you’re not wearing it, you need to switch! Because it’s one of those things that you’re going to always feel fresh, if you are sweating, this protects you. It activates when you move and protects you when you move. So that’s what I love about the deodorant but it’s also fresh and it’s really strong! This deodorant lasts overnight and when you start over again in the morning, it lasts the whole day. There’s nothing like it!”
Is there anything you do to help calm you down in stressful/sweaty situations besides wearing your Degree deodorant?
“It’s psychological, I do believe that. You have to tell yourself sometimes that you’re not really feeling what you’re feeling. You have to pause and breathe. I think that when you take a moment and just pause you kind of slow down the reaction of sweating and everything getting out of control. So, I think a lot of it is mental.”

The start of a new year ushers in resolutions, adventures and—trend alert—the must-wear Pantone color. For 2014, the color experts chose Radiant Orchid, explaining it “blooms with confidence and warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination.” The hot hue is a pretty combination of fuchsia and purple with pink undertones, making it so soft and sweet, it works amazingly well as a flattering makeup shade. We’ve rounded up some products that will help you showcase the color of the moment (just avoid wearing them all at once!).
Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Jo’mina ($17, sephora.com)
If you’re a little intimidated to test out a new hue on your face, try it out on your tips first. This sweet shade looks good on most skin tones and isn’t too bold for the office.
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in Violine Out of Control ($34, sephora.com)
If you love your lip gloss but hate having to re-apply it, this one is for you. The plush applicator allows the stay-all-day formula to glide on easily and in a just-right purple-pink tint.
Marc Jacobs Shameless Bold Blush ($30, sephora.com)
One sweep of this radiant orchid blush on your cheeks is all you need to wake up your complexion. Go light on the application by using a plush powder brush (this way you’ll avoid an overdose, which can result in a Barney-like look).
Sephora Collection Glitter Eyeliner and Mascara ($14, sephora.com)
This two-in-one eyeliner and mascara is all you’ll need for your next night out. A glitter infused take on the color of the year can be worn along your lash line, on your lashes or, yes, even both.

When it comes to my nightly skincare routine, I have one goal: get it done as quickly as possible so I can hit the sack. So when I attempt to add new products into the mix, they never last very long because I get tired of the extra step…until I was introduced to Nude Skincare Purify Toning Water ($26, sephora.com). Toners remove excess oil and dead skin cells that may be left behind after washing. You simply put a few drops on a cotton ball and swipe it across your face and neck then follow up with your moisturizer or night cream. It is formulated with natural ingredients, like cinnamon, ginger and burnet root to help purify your pores and balance oil production. I have not only seen improvement in the tone of my skin but I’ve also noticed my skin looks smoother and gets less oily. Well done, toner, you have officially landed a permanent spot in my highly coveted nightly skincare routine.

A festive manicure is your ticket to looking party ready. Whether you want to go all out with glitter or rock a subtle take on sparkle, we whipped up some nail looks to get you into the holiday spirit:
To really let your holiday spirit shine, try this standout combo: apply two coats of your favorite red—we like Clinique Nail Enamel in Red Red Red ($13, clinique.com)—and top it with a sparkly polish, like KB Shimmer Kringle All the Way ($9, kbshimmer.com). Apply the sparkles to all ten tips or just one bling finger like we did.
If you’re in the mood for a sophisticated take on shimmer, try pairing a deep eggplant polish with textured gold flakes. We like Julep in Jillian ($14, julep.com) and Gianna ($14, julep.com). Apply two coats of the eggplant then add a drop of the gold glitter to the base of the nail near the cuticle and lightly drag it toward the tip for a faded effect. Finish with a clear topcoat.
For a more understated way to do glitter, we like this holiday polish from Essie in Toggle to the Top ($9, Ulta.com), which already has the sparkle in the polish. Just apply two coats and finish with a quick-dry topcoat.
Not a fan of sparkle? No problem! Nothing says holiday more than a classic red polish. Here are some of our new favorites. Swipe on two coats and finish with a topcoat.
