When I think of November, a few activities come to mind: football (watching, not playing), Thanksgiving, holiday shopping, oh, and eating pomegranates. Believe it or not, November marks National Pomegranate Month (yes, there is such a thing). At FITNESS, we’re huge fans of the superfruit for its health benefits. After all, it can do amazing things like clean teeth, regulate cholesterol, prevent arthritis and even help protect against heart disease. In addition, the red fruit also packs some sweet beauty benefits—it contains more antioxidants than red wine and green tea. To celebrate, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite pom beauty products (you’re welcome).
Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream ($13, usa.weleda.com)
This luxurious hand cream is loaded with pomegranate seed oil to protect your hands from free radical damage and that dry, cracking feeling winter weather brings. High five!
Burt’s Bees Naturally Ageless Intensive Repairing Serum ($25, burtsbees.com)
With pom, primrose and borage oils, this serum acts as a triple threat against fine lines and wrinkles.
Josie Maran Argan Tinted Moisturizer ($38, sephora.com)
Get glowing, flawless skin with a hefty does of protection with this tinted moisturizer. Pomegranate oil, argan oil and goji berry hydrate the skin while SPF 30 protects against rays.
Korres Pomegranate Cleansing & Make Up Removing Wipes ($12 for 25, sephora.com)
Talk about a refreshing treat: these wipes (with pomegranate extract) remove dirt, makeup and oil while reducing the appearance of pores. Bonus: they’re easy to stash in your gym bag.

I know everyone claims this, but my skin is super sensitive so I’m careful with my makeup routine as to not disturb—what I like to call—the red-faced monster. That’s why I love when skincare companies venture into color because you get the best of both worlds. After some trial and error, I found the perfect match for my skin came in a pretty gold tube labeled Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm with SPF 45 ($39, sephora.com). Its airy texture glides on so smoothly, you can barely feel it, yet it provides enough coverage to mask imperfections. Plus, it has a high level of broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection (a must). I apply it every morning, and especially when I ski because it protects my face from the glare of the sun on the slopes (yet I still look like a fresh-faced snow bunny when I take a break in the lodge with my friends!).

These simple Halloween tricks are sure to make your nails a treat!
All eyes will be on your tips at your costume party with a set of glow-in-the-dark nails. The Ciaté Corrupted Neon Manicure Kit ($25, Sephora.com) contains a matte neon polish, loose neon glitter in the same color and a top coat, which transforms the polish into a glowing hue under a black light. The kit comes in in four neon shades. We chose Club Tropicana, a bright orange. Simply apply two coats of color and finish with the topcoat. Add the matching glitter to an accent nail on each hand.
These jewel-toned polishes will cast a spell on their admirers. Just in time for the holiday, Deborah Lippmann created Wicked 10th Anniversary Limited Edition Collection ($29, sephora.com), a trio of polishes that celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Broadway musical, Wicked. You can wear each color alone or combine two (Defying Gravity and One Short Day) like we did above. Start with two layers of your base shade then paint a stripe with an accent color down the middle of your nail. Finish with a clear topcoat.
Have an edgy costume planned or want to let your inner alter ego out for the night? You can show off your rock star side with OPI Rock Goddess Mini Lacquer Set ($13, ulta.com). There are four bold shades and a skull charm bracelet to complete the look. Wear any polish alone or use one as an accent. We paired Stand in Lime for Days and Rolling Bones to create a Frankenstein-inspired look. Apply the citrusy lime green then using a small detail brush, trace your tips with the shimmery metallic black then lock it in place with a top coat.
For an even easier and faster way to show your spooky spirit, try some ghost and goblin inspired nail stickers, like Jamberry Candy Corn and Mummified Nail Wraps ($15 each, jamberry.com) or Kiss Nail Artist Halloween Nail Art ($3, drugstores). Arrange them any way you want, on one nail or all. With multiple styles and shapes you can create a customized look in no time.

Winter is right around the corner and I can already feel my skin cringing at thought of the harsh elements. So when I saw the Fresh Crème Ancienne Ultimate Nourishing Honey Mask ($130, Fresh.com) I couldn’t help wanting to slather in on my face ASAP. This luxe pot of sweet goodness, which contains two and a half tablespoons of pure honey, melts into skin to deliver up to six hours (according to the company) of nourishment. It’s also packed with Echinacea extract, which helps improve skin’s resilience to environmental aggressors like pollution and smog (a big plus for big city dwellers!). While I’m leery of thick masks due to my oily, acne-prone skin, this one didn’t clog my pores or trigger a breakout, since honey is actually a natural antibiotic and works to pull out dirt and grime while also healing existing acne marks. Before bed, I smooth it over cleansed, damp skin and leave it on for ten minutes before rinsing with warm water. I wake up with a radiant glow. Warning: the mask’s super-sweet honey fragrance may cause a midnight snack craving!

For most of us who wax, the act is kept private. But for Sports Illustrated model, Nina Agdal, it’s just part of her job. So much so that she has teamed up with European Wax Center as their new brand ambassador. We caught up with Nina to find out how to get the perfect wax as well as some of her off-duty beauty secrets.
What interested you in being a brand ambassador for European Wax Center?
“Since my job is to always be kind of half-naked in swimsuits and lingerie, it’s important for me to have good skin, so European Wax Center is a great fit. They have a great waxing procedure that’s painless and makes your skin so smooth. I always make sure to go before a shoot to get my skin ready and I like going there specifically because it’s comfortable, everyone’s so nice, it’s clean and it’s pretty.”
Do you have any tips on getting the perfect wax, or products you use pre/post wax?
“I use The Exfoliate ($38, waxcenter.com) before I get waxed just to make sure my skin is clean and smooth. Their waxing is so painless that after, you don’t really need anything. They have products to use after if you’re in pain, but you don’t really need it. Just put on some lotion and you’re good to go.”
What’s you’re favorite part of being a Sports Illustrated model?
“It’s just like a family, honestly. To be a part of that family is such a pleasure. Everybody is so nice and they help you a lot with putting your name out there and you do a lot of PR stuff for them and of course you get to go on great trips and do great events because of it and I’m just so happy to be a part of that.”
Since you are out on the beach in the water and sun for these Sports Illustrated photo-shoots, what tips do you have for keeping your makeup in place?
“I think when you’re going to the beach; you have to keep it as natural as possible. Of course, put on sunscreen to protect your skin both for now and for later but besides that, waterproof mascara and a little brow. European Wax Center has a Natural Brow Powder ($20, waxcenter.com) too which I use. It’s not a pencil; a pencil can be too stiff but this is really easy. When you’re going to the beach, curl your lashes, [apply] waterproof mascara, a little brow and maybe a little bronzer. I feel like the worst mistake you can make is putting on foundation before going to the beach because it’s just going to melt down your face and look like a disaster.”
What are your beauty must haves when you’re off-duty?
“I really like the ck One Cream + Powder Bronzer Duo ($25, Ulta.com). I use it on my cheekbones but you can also use it on your nose or eyelids and it just gives you a nice glow. And then I use Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm ($33, elizabetharden.com) hour on my lips. You can even put it on your eyelids too if you just want them to be a little glossy.”

As women, we know the power of a confidence boost, whether it’s receiving a compliment on your new haircut or the rush you feel after dominating your morning run. But for some young girls, feeling confident doesn’t come easy, especially during those tough adolescent years. In fact, 6 out of 10 girls stop doing what they love because of anxiety about their looks. That’s why Dove is reaching out to the next generation of women with the “Let’s Make Girls Unstoppable” program to empower girls and inspire killer confidence.
As part of the program, Dove is kicking off their 4th Annual “Self-Esteem Weekend” on October 3rd through October 6th for girls in New York City. The weekend will include workshops lead by Self-Esteem Ambassador, Jess Weiner, an inspiring mix of songs from DJ Diamond Kuts and a custom menu from a top young chef, Kid Chef Eliana. For more information on the NYC event, click here.
Dove is also launching their first-ever limited edition “Confidence is Beautiful” Self-Esteem product collection (including the classic, moisturizing formulas of bar soap, body wash and deodorant we love) available exclusively at Walmart stores this September, which supports self-esteem programming for Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Girls Inc. to make sure they reach at least 15 million girls by the year 2015. If you are not in the NYC area, you can find your local self-esteem workshop at www.dove.com/girlsunstoppable.com. Confidence is contagious; so let’s help pass it around!

Hitting the gym is one of the best things for your body but it can sometimes be one of the worst things for your hair. Too-tight ponytails and excess washing can leave strands brittle and breakage-prone, but you don’t have to sacrifice a killer workout for soft, healthy hair. Instead of just tossing your hair into a topknot before your spin class, give it the T.L.C. it needs. Below, four tips to get your strands into shape while you shape up at the gym:
Whether you’re gearing up for a long run or prepping for a mid-day Pilates class, the ponytail is, no doubt, a workout-friendly hairstyle, but tying it too tight can break strands mid-shaft. To avoid this, I tie my hair back with stretchy ribbon elastics like Emi-Jay Hair Ties ($14 for set of 5, emi-jay.com). They eliminate the unwanted ponytail crease and are comfortably loose enough to prevent breakage but still strong enough to keep your style from falling out. Bonus: They come in so many cute colors and patterns — I like to match them to my workout gear!
Spritz On Some Dry Oil
My go-to gym hair is a messy topknot. It’s functional, keeps my hair off my neck and still manages to look a little bit cute while I’m drenched in sweat, but I started to notice my ends were getting seriously distressed from bending every which way. Before my workout, I spray Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Spray ($30, ulta.com) from mid-length down before tying my hair up, which makes a huge difference! This ultra-fine spray adds instant hydration and shine that makes my hair soft, manageable and easy to style.
Avoid Over Washing
It’s hard to not suds up following a sweaty workout, but too much shampoo can dry out your hair and strip it of essential oils. We’re firm believers in the power of dry shampoo and I always keep one, like Dove Style+Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo ($4, drugstore.com) stocked in my gym bag. If you can’t jump on the dry shampoo bandwagon, we suggest trying a cleansing conditioner like WEN by Chaz Dean Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner ($32 for 16 oz. bottle, chazdean.com). A sulfate-free, low-lather formula will keep your hair’s natural oils in check while still washing away all the sweaty stuff.
Use Your Sweat as a Styler
As gross as it may seem, a little perspiration can give your hair some much-needed grip for certain hard-to-master styles. Avoid heat-induced damage by using your post-workout hair to your advantage and pulling it into a low side braid, then slide on a pretty headband like Goody FashioNow Patent Bow Headwrap ($5, Walmart stores). This look is an easy transition from workout to work-ready!

You know that lit-from-within glow often spotted on the cheeks of your favorite celebrity or magazine cover star (Fitness’ cover girl and rumored girlfriend to Derek Jeter, Hannah Davis, is working it on our September issue)? Well, I’ve found a dream product that delivers the perfect pink flush reminiscent of an after-workout glow minus the sweat-soaked clothes. Nars Blush in Gaiety ($29, narscosmetics.com) is an in-your-face hot pink that at first glance appears a bit intimidating. But don’t be thrown by the nearly-neon hue because once you sweep this onto the apples of your cheeks, you will be amazed at how natural and flattering this shade is. It goes on sheer and doesn’t overpower your whole look, so you have the freedom to play up bold eye makeup or a strong lip color. So even if you’re not a cover model, or Derek Jeter isn’t the one making you blush, you can still fake a flirty look with this pretty powder.
