Our hands carry tons of bacteria, which can easily can spread to places we don’t want—like our face! So we enlist hand sanitizer in the war against germs. Our latest find: Veripur Hand Sanitizer Moisturizer, a bacteria-killer in a bottle that has a fresh scent (for fragrance-phobes, it’s also available unscented) and can be found at your local drugstore.
While most hand purifiers are alcohol-based (read: drying to the skin) this product is quite the opposite—it contains hydrating jojoba, grape seed and avocado oils in a creamy base to nourish as it wards of germs. Instead of blasting bacteria with antiseptic alcohol, it contains benzethonium chloride suspended in a wax base that invisibly binds to skin, killing germs continuously for up to four hours without reapplication. How handy!

It typically isn’t appropriate to start your day off with a cocktail, but Marc Jacobs is about to change that with his fresh new spring fragrance line. The limited edition Marc Jacobs Splash Cocktail 2011 Collection includes three fruity new flavors, but our favorite is the Cranberry concoction. The Cranberry cocktail is an ideal light and invigorating scent for spring. The key notes in our new favorite fragrance are a juicy mix of pink grapefruit, cranberry pulp, tangerine, honeysuckle, and exotic woods. I know you might be skeptical about smelling like a cranberry, but believe me—this chubby little bottle will win you over with just one spritz!

Hairspray was always one of those products we could never imagine going green. But in the spirit of Earth Day, we’ve compiled a list of Mother Nature-approved finishing sprays. Keep strands in line with these natural wonders:
If you’re going for an au naturel look, Aubrey Organics NuStyle Hairspray is the spray for you. This hair-aid has a barely-there feel to it that will give your hair the hold that it needs without any crunchiness.
Another light hairspray that’s gone green is TRESemme Naturals Finishing Spray. This long-lasting finisher is made with sweet orange extract to help fortify strands (and impart a nice scent). It’s also dye-free, and enhances hair’s natural radiance.
If you’re more of a big hair gal, Nexxus Phyto Organics Absolute Firm Hold Finisher lends enough staying power to uphold even bold styles, and contains botanicals to nourish locks.

In honor of Earth Day (but extending through the summer), 100 percent of the net proceeds from Kiehl’s Limited Edition Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque ($23) will benefit Waterkeeper Alliance, a charity dedicated to protecting Earth’s water sources. The tubs are decked out in gorgeous labels specially designed by the actors Chloë Sevigny and Michael C. Hall (we’re partial to Michael’s stained glass-esque artwork), and the mask itself contains white clay to purify, oat kernel flour to absorb oil, and aloe to soothe. Do a good deed, get great skin!

In our May 2011 “A Smarter Shampoo” Get Gorgeous section opener, hairstylist River Lloyd of the John Frieda Salon in New York City explains that the chlorine and chemicals in your shower water may be hurting your hair—but that a shower filter can remedy the problem. Here, three tell-tale signs that your shower water may be damaging your strands:
1. Your hair “steams” when it’s heated under a blowdryer.
2. When it’s damp, your hair has a slight “wet-dog” smell to it.
3. Even after a proper blowout, your hair still feels tangled.
Do any of these sound familiar? If so, you may want to consider attaching a shower filter to your showerhead: They remove up to 91 percent of chlorine, leaving your strands softer, smoother, and more manageable, and keeping your color truer longer, Lloyd says.

One of the perks of being the intern de jour is that you get to try out all the latest beauty loot. With full access to the overflowing beauty closet, I’ve found a number of must-have products that I swear by. Here, I’m dishing about which are worth the splurge and which of these bargain beauty products are just as good as their high-end counterparts.
STEAL: L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara
I have always lusted after thicker lashes and seem to be on a never-ending search for the best volumizing mascara. When I caught wind of a product that boasted “millionizing lashes”, I had to try it for myself. To my delight, L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara ($9) delivers exactly what is promised perfectly separated full lashes. This is a magic wand worth investing in!
SPLURGE: Givenchy Le Prisme Blush
Being a poor college student, I try to resist spending temptation, but when you love something this much it seems worth the splurge. Givenchy Le Prisme Blush ($44) is the perfect mix of colors to brighten up more than just my dull skin, but my whole day: When you look better, you feel better!
STEAL: John Frieda Root Awakening Hair Spray
After styling your hair, just a couple spritzes of John Frieda Root Awakening Non-Aerosol Hair Spray ($6.49) will keep it in place through the night. This lightweight, non-sticky spray is also enriched with vitamins that promote strong strands.
SPLURGE: Clinique Redness Solutions Targeted Corrector
This is my skin crisis go-to stick. I have tried tons of concealers, and nothing compares to this handy little wand. The yellow tint helps neutralize redness on blemishes and around your nose. Although it’s a tiny tube, a little of Clinique Redness Solutions Targeted Corrector ($19.50) goes a long way.
STEAL: Victoria’s Secret Minerals Lip Gloss in Bare
A swipe of gloss can work wonders, especially if you don’t have much time to spend on your makeup. One of my favorite finds in the beauty closet is Victoria’s Secret Minerals Lip Gloss in Bare ($10). It’s the perfect neutral hue to keep my look work-friendly yet pulled together.

It’s been a nerve-wracking week, and in turn—we’re ashamed to admit—our cuticles and nails have taken a beating. So we’ve been constantly reaching for the tiny tin of Jurlique Love Balm that’s tucked into our purse: The skin-quenching natural oil-packed salve works its healing wonders especially well on ravaged cuticles, but also soothes parched faces, body spots, and even then ends of thirsty strands. How do you repair your most ragged parts?
