8 Celeb Secrets for Beautiful Skin

Getting red carpet–ready skin may seem impossible but Tony Silla, co-owner and head esthetician at the Face Place, is here to help. He works with everyone from Emmy Rossum to Mary-Louise Parker, so he's seen it all, and you won't believe the secret exfoliating trick he shared with us. Check out some of his best tips to help you put your best face forward and develop a skincare routine that actually works.

What do you suggest for busy women who don't have a lot of time in their schedules but want to have good skin?
You know, you really don't need a 12-step skin regimen to have good skin. For a busy woman, you can simplify your morning and nighttime regimens to three steps. In the morning, cleanse with a good, moisturizing cleanser and cleanse with a facial towel so you're exfoliating as well. Next, protect with a moisturizer with SPF and then in the evening, just remove makeup, cleanse, and moisturize. So three steps in the morning and three at night.

What is the most important part of a skincare routine?
Cleansing and consistency. If you don't properly cleanse, you can clog up your pores and then the moisturizers and serums you're using won't be as effective and won't be able to reach the skin as well as you want them to.

Are there universal products that women need to have in their skincare routine?
Definitely, you should have a gentle, creamy cleanser, a serum chock-full of ingredients including vitamin C, peptides, phyto stem cells, and also a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30.

What is the most effective way to exfoliate your skin? How does that impact cleansing?
Exfoliating is important, I would recommend at least once or twice a week with an exfoliator ... It's important to do this step before you cleanse, so you remove the dead skin and then are cleansing the healthy skin underneath. It's always important to cleanse in the morning to remove the excess oils and then at night to remove makeup.

Do you believe any woman can have great skin, or do you think genetics play a big part in determining skin quality?
All women can have great skin if they invest the time needed, and this includes diet and lifestyle. So, of course, people are more predisposed to acne or other skin problems, but I think all women can have great skin

Can you tell us Emmy Rossum's ultimate skincare secret?
No! But she gets regular facial treatments, and Emmy adopts a really healthy and active lifestyle. She's also young, so that helps too!

What do celebrities do that average women can incorporate into their routines?
It may not be viable to visit one of our clinics once a week, but you could easily schedule a facial once a month or work with an esthetician to develop a home remedy plan.

Any final tips you want our readers to know?
Staying hydrated and staying healthy, but really the diet is such an important thing too; we can't be drinking sodas and eating hamburgers and expecting to have good skin. It's important to consider what we're putting inside our bodies.
