Get Perfect Skin: The 5-Minute Before-Bed Routine

Vaseline on eye lids
Monika Roe

This pre-slumber plan will let you hit the sheets with the skin of your dreams and wake up to a flawless complexion.

Step 1: The Vaseline Trick

Split a pea-size amount of Vaseline ($1.79, drugstores) between the pads of your index fingers. Close your eyes, then gently smooth the petroleum jelly onto your eyelids and through lashes to liquefy mascara, liner, and shadow, says Judith Hellman, MD, a dermatologist in New York City.

@cigarydeborah: dangerous to your skin? Hardly, I used it on a tattoo to keep it moist while it was healing as an alternative to expensive "Tattoo Goo" and other products like it. It healed up perfectly and this was about 4 years ago!

this is very bad advise. Vaseline that gets into your eyes can clog your pours and cause pipels. When I was younger we used it instead of mascara until I learned better. check your facts girls.

Vaseline has a tendency to clog pores, then you have additional problems. I use EVOO every night as a moisturizer and makeup remover, my skin is more supple and I have NO wrinkles, not even crows feet. I am 64 years young and am told I look 40's.

Dermatologist or not, vaseline is NOT a plant product, it is PETROLEUM based! Instead, use a plant based, skin friendly oil, like extra virgin olive oil-it dissolves all makeup, gentle to the skin and your skin will ABSORB the nutrients it contains! Vaseline is dangrous to use on your SKIN, period! If you are going to use that, why not 10W30 motor oil..it comes from the SAME place! Really, do your homework!

I have been warned against this because it is not water soluble and your tears can't flush it out causing buildup inside your eyes so that may need to be surgically cleaned and removed. Scary I wouldn't use any kind of oil around you eyes either, for the same reason!

I put vaseline on the corners of my eyes all of the time before bed and it helps prevent wrinkles from dry skin and pillowcases. My mother has sworn by it her whole life and she looks amazing at 60. it's not gross-it's great for sensitive skin and it has no scent. i love it. however, if you lean on the oilier side, i would stay away as it might create breakouts.

I'm with ccallahan77- seems stupid to put a petroleum product anywhere on your body. Putting it around your eyes can cause puffiness especially if left overnight.
