5 Gorgeous, Glistening Holiday Makeup Looks

    A Candlelit Complexion

A wash of iridescence on your cheeks will give you a sexy I-worked-out-today radiance. "Using reflective pigments help your cheeks look sculpted and glowing," says Jackie Gomez, a Victoria's Secret makeup artist, who created these looks. Get a dewy base with tinted moisturizer and nude lip gloss. Then use a blush brush to apply a peachy powder bronzer to the apples of your cheeks and a highlighter along the tops of your cheekbones, sweeping it out to your temples. Look for a luminizer with silvery pearl or light gold undertones if you're fair. Deeper coppers and bronzes will warm up medium and dark skin tones.

    Gleaming Eyes

Dark and smoky? Snooze. Make your gaze twinkle with luminous eye shadows. "Metallic shades reflect light beautifully and brighten your eyes," Gomez says. If you're pale or have blue or green eyes, try yellow gold or rose gold shadows. If you have medium to dark skin or hazel or brown eyes, use bronze, pewter, or copper shades. Apply the shadows from your lash line to your crease, blending as you go, and then trace a little of the same color underneath your lower lashes with an eyeliner brush.

    Jewel-Toned Nails

Think of a metallic mani as gems for your fingers: It adds instant pizzazz, says Julie Kandalec, a manicurist in New York City. A fun way to pick polish: Match your nails to your hair color. If you're blond, try a yellow gold or bronze shade. Strawberry blond or auburn? Pick a rose gold or copper. If you're brunette, opt for pewter or dark silver. Keep your nails on the short side — no longer than a quarter inch beyond the tips of fingers — and file them into a soft oval shape. Paint on a thin coat, letting it dry for one minute, and then add another thin coat. Every three days, layer on a high-shine topcoat to keep the color lustrous and prevent chips.

    Sparkly Clothes

Bring on the bling: The holiday season is the ideal time to mix in attention-grabbing pieces. Keep your silhouette simple by pairing metallics with plenty of skin. If your dress has long sleeves, its hem should be high to show off your legs. If you wear a one-shoulder or tank dress, the hem should be close to the knees. For a subtler look, wear a top or pants with black sequins. Accessorize with bracelets, earrings, and rings in rose gold, chrome, bronze, and yellow gold. And ignore rules about matching metals; the more of a mix, the merrier!

    Party-Perfect Hair

Easygoing dos complement metallic makeup because they balance out a dressier look, says Jeanie Syfu, a Tresemme celebrity stylist, who created these styles. Apply a volumizing mousse to damp hair and blow-dry it upside down, tousling it with your fingers. Then, if your strands are straight, tease a couple of center sections, starting about three inches back from your hairline, and smooth the top layer. Pull back the hair on each side of your head, then twist and secure. Curl wavy hair using a one-inch iron, wrapping each section around the barrel in alternating directions. If you have curly hair, create a side part and pull your hair into a loose side bun behind one ear at the neck, letting a few wispy pieces hang down.
