Try a New Summer Do

The best way to beat the sweltering humidity: Trim your locks, says David Evangelista, a celebrity stylist at Cornelia Day Resort in New York City. Moisture in the air soaks into damaged areas, causing the hair shaft to swell. Snip off split ends and hair instantly looks healthier and is less prone to frizzing, he explains. To prevent fraying, use products that contain proteins to strengthen strands, such as John Frieda Frizz-Ease Daily Nourishment Leave-In Fortifying Spray, $5.99, drugstores, and Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Leave-In Split End Protector for Long Hair, $2.99, drugstores. Thinking about a short cut? A chic, off-the-neck bob is a great contrast to flowy summer fashions -- but skip this shape if you have extremely coarse or curly hair, says Evangelista.

Firm Your Rear

You dutifully do your lunges, but you still see cellulite when you're trying on swimsuits. Now there's new hope: Mitchell Chasin, MD, a laser surgeon in Livingston and Bridgewater, New Jersey, has had great results with a newly FDA-approved treatment called Cellulite by Thermage that uses radio-frequency energy to gently heat fat deposits beneath the skin. One session improves collagen production and blood flow, causing skin to become firmer and cellulite to diminish, says Dr. Chasin. The price is steep -- $4,000 -- but results can last for years as long as you eat right and exercise regularly.

Have Silky Skin

No, it's not true that leg hair grows faster in hot weather, it just feels that way because you're wearing skin-baring skirts and shorts. Get rid of stubble fast: Shaving is best for large areas, like legs (try Bic Soleil Shimmer Shaver, $6.99, drugstores), while waxing is better in spots where precision is key, such as the bikini line (try Nair Soothing Wax Kit, $7.99, drugstores), says David Bank, MD, a dermatologist and director of the Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic and Laser Surgery in Mount Kisco, New York. For sensitive underarms, try a depilatory with calming ingredients, like Veet Sensitive Formula Hair Removal Lotion, $5.99, drugstores, which contains shea butter. Immediately follow up any shave session with a moisturizing body oil or lotion to protect skin and enhance softness, says Dr. Bank. Try Vaseline Cocoa Butter Vitalizing Gel Body Oil, $6.99, drugstores.

Fight Fading Color

If your hair color becomes history as fast as last season's Dancing with the Stars contestants, we've got your stay-true hue plan: Before you step outside, slather on a treatment mask with UV-deflecting ingredients. "Deep conditioner acts like a sunscreen by sealing hair's cuticle layer to help prevent fading," says Lucio, a colorist at Privé Salon in New York City. For daily protection, wear a hat, or try spritzing on a leave-in conditioner such as Ouidad Sun Shield Spray, $20, oiudad.com. Planning a vacation? Consider going a half shade darker. Even if you use color-protecting products, hair tends to lighten in the sun, says Lucio.

Polish Nails on the Go

Give fingers or toes a quick pop of color with a quick-drying one-coat lacquer pen. We like Sally Hansen Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color Pens, $7.95 each, drugstores -- they come in bold summer shades such as hot pink and orange. No time for a pedicure? You can't hide peeling polish in sandals, so don't even try it. Nails look perfectly polished when kept clean and trim; carry a file in your tote for touch-ups.

Give Your Cleavage a Makeover

The secret to looking good in a bikini goes beyond diet, exercise, and bathing-suit choice. For a sexy-bust boost, use makeup to enhance shadows, says New York City makeup artist Emily Kate Warren. Apply a matte bronzer in a 2-inch-high vertical line, starting at your sternum (try Benefit Hoola bronzing powder, $28, benefitcosmetics.com). Brush highlighting powder from your left armpit to the top of the bronzer line, then to your right armpit, to create an M shape (try M.A.C Iridescent Pressed Powder in Belightful, $21, maccosmetics.com). To minimize curves, sweep matte bronzer across your chest, skipping the highlighter, says Warren.

Treat Your Feet Right

It's tempting to attack dull heels with a foot file. But don't go overboard, says Marc Brenner, a podiatrist in Glendale, New York. Too much sloughing makes skin thin and prone to cuts and infection. Instead, try Kerasal One Step Exfoliating Moisturizer Therapy Foot Ointment, $9.99, drugstores. To prevent rough spots, make trendy shoes more impact-friendly with insoles, such as Foot Petals Killer Kushionz, $13, footpetals.com -- the lavender-scented foam liners pad the entire foot.

Get Complexion Perfection

It's one of life's little ironies: In the winter you battled cold temperatures and dryness. Now, in the quest for clear, radiant skin, you have to overcome sticky heat and humidity. Time to update your skincare wardrobe! Wash away pore-clogging oil and sweat with a refining cleanser, like Sonya Dakar Cypress Citrus Wash, $45, sonyadakar.com. And swap your winter-weight cream for a lighter version with the same active ingredients, says Dr. Bank. A cool trick: Put your lotion in the fridge before applying -- the cold temperature temporarily tightens pores and firms skin, he says. Or try ICY Beauty Icy Quick Lift Sun Effect, $36, blissworld.com; the self-cooling mechanism inside the applicator quickly chills the cream inside.
