Curves Ahead: Dress to Create an Hourglass Figure

Rebecca before makeover
Karen Pearson

After losing 58 pounds, Rebecca Elias, 29, felt she'd gone from full to flat. With a little wardrobe Rx, we brought her sexy back.

Fake a Fuller Figure

Last year Rebecca went from a size 14 to a 6. "Dropping the weight is the best thing I ever did," says the English teacher. What she didn't count on losing, however, was her curves. "When I look in the mirror, I feel like a stick," she says. To compensate, Rebecca dressed as though her figure were fuller, but that just made her look shapeless. We showed her how to create an hourglass effect by accenting her tiny waist. "When I was heavy, I always avoided belts," Rebecca says. "I can't believe I'm wearing them now -- and with skinny jeans!"
